Insulting Roman Polanski

It was embarrassing how they took a jab at Roman Polanski

Making fun of a superior director won't make "Hard Candy" a decent film.

It is ironic seeing as how HC is basically a poorly made rip-off of 'Death And The Maiden.'

Yes, I agree, and into start of the third act, I really couldn’t sympathize with Hailey's character as she spiraled into an uncontrollable nut job. Suspense wise, the movie started off great and held my attention but slowly fell apart and honestly, at that point, I could have cared less about the outcome.

I still can't believe I watch this all the way though. Do you think I might have masochistic tendencies, or do I just flat-out hate myself? It's alright if you're not an expert and psychology and can't answer. Why do you think you saw it to the end? Just a drive to finish what you stated?

Not only to finish what I started but there was a little glimmer of hope that the characters would cancel each other out at the end. Why he didn't grab her is something that bothers me. The writer probably wanted to portray Hailey as some little feminist hero doing her part to protect innocent beings from predators but she came across as a menace herself.

And as a note to the mention of Roman Polanski within this thread, he is one of many within Hollywood circles with a taste for young girls. In reality, photography is a safe harbor for perverts because it can be argues as artistic expression. Why else do you think 14 year old models are made to look older within a frame of pure innocence. It’s a warped mentality and I think it’s impossible to cure those sexually attracted to teens because they are permanently wired that way.

I found both characters insufferable so, unfortunately, I can't use that; guess I'll have to stick with hate myself/masochist.

"And as a note to the mention of Roman Polanski within this thread, he is one of many within Hollywood circles with a taste for young girls."

This is true. I think Pilanski is often singled out because he was caught giving in to his, lets say, "none too desirable" urges. Kind of like how there was tons of corruption in the White House before Richard Nixon, but Nixon was the first to be caught pulling off something as big as Watergate.

"Why else do you think 14 year old models are made to look older within a frame of pure innocence."

Be careful when researching those "child model" sites. You could easily find something you'll wish you could forget. I know of some people who have and, while i'm not comfortable giving too many details, I'll say that I've stumbled upon things that make me a lot more cautious about what I click on.

Sadly, I think you're right. No amount of rehab has worked yet from what I've heard. There are precautions one can take, putting saltpeter in one's morning coffee, maybe? Of course, there are the types who don't despair in their conditions and will give in gladly, even going so far as to film themselves rapping their own daughters and sharing it with their friends. (No *beep* this happens) These are the type who should be locked away in a pitch-black cell where they are only fed foods that contain horseradish or something equally appalling.

Pfff who cares about Roman Rapey Polanski? Insulting the band Goldfrapp by illegally recording one of their songs, THAT was respectless and the SOLE reason Jeff truly deserved to die. If only Hayley had died as well for listening to the illegal content, justice would have been done.

reply

What's that about Goldfrapp?

reply

No, it would just make "Hard Candy" a film that, in between lines, talks about the facts.

reply

I thought it was a witty and humorous stab.

reply

I don't think it makes him a victim... considering...

Polanski is a sick perverted individual. USA is right into prosecuting him to his death.

reply

Polanski is a child rapist who got away with it, who cares if he is embarrassed?

You’re making a lot of sense and Imdb rightfully deleted my previous message for having weak counter-arguments. Mr. Polanski also offered the young lady champagne, performed oral sex on her first and drove her home safely afterwards. All these years, I abhorred him when in fact, he acted classier than most rapists.

reply

I thought it was great that they were willing to point out that Polanksi is, and always will be, a child rapist.

There are far too many dopes like the OP out there who find that out of line.

reply

gotoads, I hope you don't have children. Even if you don't, I hope you don't have children. Pig.

I think I laughed at your comment more than I probably should have. My sense of humour can be pretty warped, I admit.

"God, when I meet you, I'm gonna be pretty. If it's the last thing I do. I'll be a beautiful angel."

reply

even though the character who said it was obviously a nut job. it was quite suprising to hear it said in a film even if it is true.

reply

Roman Polanski should be happy that he was mentioned in such an excellent film.

In all seriousness, I like Polanski's movies, I really don't care about the drama. I have seen both Death of a Maiden, and Hard Candy. Personally, I liked Hard Candy more, but that is just my opinion, both are great movies. Hard Candy certainly drew from what came before it, all art does this, it is part of what defines art.

reply

I loved that line. Andwhat she said about him in the film was true.

reply

He deserves to die for what he did that's all.
The day he's maggot food can't come soon enough.
