Am I the only one who adores this film?

I really don't understand why this film isn't rated higher on this site. Granted more men are members of IMDb and a lot of guys don't care for period pieces but women have ranked it low as well.
This is a brave and beautiful film. Of course it's not exactly historically accurate but I cannot help but feel the cinematagraphy, costumes and luscious looking pastries are mouth watering. I love the pastel colours! This stands as one of my most favorite period pieces. Doesn't anyone else like this film?

I absolutely ADORE this movie. I really don't care wheather the movie portraits the real Marie Antoinette or not (I think it is very obviously over-the-top). It feels more like an adventure than a periodic piece. I would love to wear dresses like that while feeding a baby lamb with my angel child - who wouldn't? :)

I also really like the soundtrack. Classical opera and the Strokes! Yay!

I loved this movie! I loved the movie, I loved the colors that they chose for KD to wear... I was okay with it being not neseccarially fact.

This is one of my favorite movies. It's unique, quirky, fun, and I love the costumes, colors, decor, music, (& of course all the cute dogs lol) ... Is it historically accurate? No ... but it's a movie that keeps me entertained no matter how many times I've seen it. Beautiful film ... love it!

I watched this last night for the first time actually. Coppola did a grand job of more than pulling together production design and costumes (which can make your heart stop) but in reminding the audience that MA was a very young woman, exuberant and many times frustrated, knowledgeable of the politics of the palace - but only as far as having to bear an heir - not the state.

The scene where MA has to wait in the freezing cold for the correct palace woman to arrive to throw a dressing gown over her head is indicative of the Fall that would come:

Marie Antoinette: This is ridiculous
Countess: This is Versailles

I just saw this film about a month ago and I love it. I even recorded it so I could watch it over and over again. The cinematagraphy is amazing and so are the costumes and the pastries. The colors are bold. Its amazing.

But, the game's out there, and it's play or get played. That simple. -Omar Little "The Wire"

This is one of my all time favorite movies. Maybe it helps to have been a teenager when the the music featured in the film was in it's prime, but the marriage of the two time periods was so masterfully done.

I'm a woman (who -BTW- *loves* period pieces) and I gave it a low-rating. I agree with you that it IS a beautiful movie (great cinematography, the pastel colors of the interiors, clothes and pastries, the beauty of Versailles and the outstanding costume design), it's just not a GOOD one. It's nice to look at, but beyond that, I found that it completely lacked substance: the screenwriting, the acting and the directing ranged from very weak to horrible. The worst part is that, when I heard about the project, I *really* wanted to like it :(
