Am I the only one who adores this film?

I really don't understand why this film isn't rated higher on this site. Granted more men are members of IMDb and a lot of guys don't care for period pieces but women have ranked it low as well.
This is a brave and beautiful film. Of course it's not exactly historically accurate but I cannot help but feel the cinematagraphy, costumes and luscious looking pastries are mouth watering. I love the pastel colours! This stands as one of my most favorite period pieces. Doesn't anyone else like this film?

i love this film and i have been watching it close to every day now for the past week. i too don't quite understand why its reputation had been berated by the majority of people who have seen it, but none the less it was a beautiful and humanly depiction of marie antoinette. and of course, the clothes and food (god those cakes) were to die for! and also, i found the soundtrack, that everyone also seems to hate, fantastic.

I stumbled across this movie on Sundance and while I don't "adore" the movie I was definitely intrigued by its gorgeous costumes, decadent food, and lush cinematography. I also loved the modern music used. Even though I wanted to switch to see other what was on other channels I couldn't stop watching this movie.

There have been many historical dramas made about Marie Antoinette so I give props to Coppola for making an original and daring movie about a popular subject that shows an entirely different perspective.

The frivolty of idleness and living a life of shallow excess is something modern Americans can relate to. Perhaps this "ancient" historical figure can teach young people something about themselves after all.

No you are not the only one who adores this film. Marie Antoinette's story has intrigued me for some time; I actually wrote my IB history internal assessment about her.

Honestly, I thought this movie would be weird: a horrible melding of old France with punk rock, using people whose accents were not consistent and did not fit their heritages.

But, I gave it a chance, and I LOVED it!I can relate to her as a typical teenage girl. And in the end, I honestly felt sympathetic towards the king and queen, two people who history has made out to be evil monarchs. And the differing accents didn't bother me at all. The quirky music and bright colors livened the film, and I thought it was realy fun =)

While I can't say that I adore it, I do find myself watching it every time that I come across it. My only contention is the soundtrack - for the most part it feels very disjointed with the look and feel of the film. However, it is spot-on in a few places, and I can understand the choices in those areas of the film. It is a visual treat - the colors, the processing, the scenery, and the cinematography are fabulous. The costumes and sets are amazing. I'm not really a Kirsten Dunst fan, but I really like her in this film (though sometimes the cadence and manner in which she says things kind of irritates me..."Do you want to feed the lambie? You feed the lamb. Feed the lamb. <insert weird giggle that she does many times over right here>" Odd.

I also think it should be rated higher, but I do get why it doesn't work for a lot of people. I'd love to see a film with more historical accuracy and a more true portrayal of the woman it is centered on. I've no doubt she was fascinating, and her short life was filled with both privilege and immense intrusion.

It inspired me to want go pastel crazy now.

It is a good movie, especially how Sofia bought modern things into history especially hot pink & certain shoes as well as how out of place Marie Antoinette was, which we can mostly relate to.

Even though this isn't accurate, it does make a good example on an essay for film technique and it's a good movie until the end but that's how the story ends sadly.

Seriously, once again...Pastel crazy!
