This really was something...

Wow what a "great" battle at the end. If russian soldiers really are that bad shooters I can understand why they lost the afgan war. Those afgan soldiers walked YES WALKED!!! in a one big group straight to strong russian defence where they were equiped with assault rifles, granade lauchers and anti aircraft machinguns. Also the solders were diged down and the idiot afgan soldiers didnt even tryed to take a cover. How in a hell did they managed to loose everyone but one soldier. Stupid, Stupid Movie!!!

I hope that is not an American writing this nonsense! If you are in fact American, I'd love to point out to you how fast CIA "found" Osama and how very well trained, and very well equipped American soldiers die in huge numbers in Iraq.
Out of respect to fallen civilians I won't say anything about the "glory" of 9/11 either.

I was just trying to demonstrate how badly written this movie was. I just dont understand that why didn-t they ask any advise from real afgan war veterans. This movie really lacks realism.

You people are all wrong. There wouldn't have been AK-47's at all. The Soviet army replaced them all with AKM's in the mid 50's and then later replaced those with AK-74's. But there is hardly a difference between the two so I guess it doesn't matter so much.

Words are far more potent when uttered scarcely -myself

I agree. That last battle scene didn't ring true to me either. No way would the Muj have walked upright at a slow pace line abreast directly into Russian fire - I think the military advisor on this film (assuming there was one) had to have been pulling his hair out when he saw the final cut of that scene. I would have thought they would have tried to enfilade or surround the Russians at dusk or early morning rather than march right up to the position in the open in the middle of the day where they would have been sitting ducks for the Hinds.

This criticism aside, this movie was OK. It basically seemed like a Russian version of Platoon - right down to the apocalyptic battle scene taking up the last fourth of the film.

I'm really not bashing Russian soldiers. My main point was that the battle scene was so unrealistic that that it ruined the whole movie.

You're talking bollocks mate, I tell you. Firstly, they are not Afghan soldiers, they are mujahideen. Mujahid means, a person who personally involves in Jihad. So they're guerillas.

If you are attacking to a position which has a real good position, you can't just run. As you say, they have machine guns placed and mortars. But if you walk, you can aim well thus you can shoot. As we all know, the mujahideen were more than the Russian soldiers.

Lastly, never forget the point. They occupied that height in order to protect the convoy which will be passing through down there. So, the mujahideen can't stay for a long time because if they do, the convoy will be gone and it will have no point to attack there.
