Awful movie
The movie is awful and boring.
The most disgusting thing about this movie is its annoying advertisement by Russian mass media.

"The movie is awful and boring."
In what way? I watched it, and found it dramatic, exciting, spectacular. Like a Russian "Platoon" or "Full Metal Jacket".
Or do Russians have a different idea of what makes a good movie? Maybe "Ivan the Terrible" which put me to sleep? Just a lot of guys looking introspective.
"We must curb the boyars". Yeah, yeah. Did he ever get around to curbing the damn boyars?
I just watched this as well and I am flabbergasted that others found this movie "awful" or "boring" ! I have been in the military 18 years, I have done time in Iraq and, in my opinion, this movie rang completely true in every sense. There have been only a handful of war movies that get me so involved in the operations occurring that I actually start to feel that nervous adrenaline building up; Black Hawk Down and the opening and closing scenes of Saving Private Ryan to name a couple. I felt the same way with this movie. I am not sure what the critical people here are looking for in a movie, but I was moved by this film. I think the filmmaker has a right to be proud, but, even more so I think the Russian veterans have a right to be proud. Platoon, in spite of all it's nuances, opened the door on showing war from the Grunts point of view, the boredom, the confusion, the terror. Though many Vietnam vets could find fault with some of Oliver Stone's depictions of the personality disorders within the platoon itself, most I talked with found the depiction of combat and operations themselves to be dead on. That movie really began the process of opening up the eyes of America to what the average American infantryman experienced in Vietnam. Other movies have since followed offering similar glimpses into World War II. I sincerly hope that most Russian viewer's can gain an appreciation for what their Afghan veterans endured after watching 9th Company.
I am going to recommend this movie to my fellow soldiers ( especially my friends who have done time in Afghanistan ); in spite of the language and cultural differences, I am sure that any soldier, and I don't care what country they are from, can totally identify with the Soviet soldiers in this film. If a filmmaker can do that in the two or so hours given, then the movie is a success in my book.

I didn't find the ending humiliating the soldiers. It just showed the pointlessness of that war. Ok, maybe they should have not based it on a true battle which had a different outcome but the movie gained a lot by it.
I actually sympathised the russian soldiers in general who fought in Afganistan. And that is a lot from a Finn.
I agree. I'm also ex-US Army and was amazed by how different, yet so alike the Russian experience was shown. I didn't think it was great epic movie-making, but a loved the different perspective and the significance of the history. Such recent history also. Makes me want to look into more info, probably a good book on the subject. Although as rough as some of the translation I got was. I don't know.
Don't compare to an awful film. I know awful films and this is no awful film.
platoon is ten times better than this garbage

If you can say this is an awful, boring movie, it means you haven't seen more than 10 films in your whole life. And 9 of them were porno, of course
shareI can say I've seen a mulitude of films, and a good deal of those foriegn, some of my favourite foriegn films being City of God, Downfall, Das Boot, When the last sword is drawn, metropolis (both 1920's and anime). I could go on, but suffice to say those were well made films with well thought out stroy lines, good productions values and meticulous planning. This is just an unorganised poorly planned narrative and character creation.
If you want to judge this as a technical achievement of film, it sucks.
If you want to judge this as something you liked, that's up to you.
Your bias is showing, *beep* Go *beep* yourself and watch Michael Bay movies instead, you dull-witted poof.
Hama cheez ba-Beer behtar meshawad!
