Awful movie

The movie is awful and boring.
The most disgusting thing about this movie is its annoying advertisement by Russian mass media.

reply

I think you are too wrong about this movie.
I agree with the things you say about ads but the movie is not bad at all.
It was the brightest movie to show the brightest way of acting for Michail Porechenkov.

reply

This is not only my opinion, it's opinion of many people I talked to.
I did my best not to fall asleep before movie's end.
The performance of Porechenkov was rather pathetic.
He's not a good actor, actually. So is Bondarchuk not a good director either. I’d prefer he went on to shoot the music videos. I didn’t like them but he wasn’t SO bad, as he’s now.

If u think, that this flick is good, I suppose, u didn’t watch movies like “Idi I smotri” and “A zori zdes tikhie”. if u watch them, you’ll never say, this movie is good.

Idi i smotri, is a totally different movie about war, so don't compare it. I didn't see "Zori" yet, but it's on the list... but I saw Idi i smotri, and you comparing 9-ya Rota to it is just wrong as the films aren't in any way similar other than them being set during "war", not to mention DIFFERENT wars.

Idi i smotri (Come and See) is a movie about the HORRORS of Nazism/war, and what war did to people.

9-ya Rota (The 9th Company) is about teenagers being made INTO PEOPLE, and then fighting in a pointless war.

reply

I dont think its a russian movie because I missed there everything what I like on russian war movies.

reply

Not really true story of the 9ya Rota that fought near Pakistan, everyone did not die. You need to see the end of Slovo's docu-film about "9 Rota". Only 6 died.

You are one literal turd, aren't you? The Russkies lost the war? You obviously have no idea about History, do you? Laughable. They pulled out of Afghanistan after 10 long years because the USSR was collapsing thanks to Gorbachev's insipid policies.

Go back to school, you Nimrod. Then again, you might do best by going back to sucking of dick in a dark alley for a living.

Hama cheez ba-Beer behtar meshawad!

reply

I totally agree.
Nikita Mikhalkov said the same thing about this movie.

reply

It was superb

reply

Mikhalkov(Studia Tritey) only makes foreign financed trash movies of real events. Like recent "Gibel Imperii", what revisionist junk. All revolutionaries = German agents, Tsar = Angel. All his movies have one theme, Russians die/lose/suffer. If Mikhalkov does not like it, it must be good.

"Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the Kalashnikov!"

reply

I dont know, what Mikhalkov's shot recently, but I'm pretty sure he's very strong director. In no possible way could he be compared to Bondarchuk Jr.
You should've took a look at his achivements list before saying this.
For example, here http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0111579/awards or here http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103176/awards.
Bondarchuk'll never won any award with such a nonsense as 9ya rota

reply

Another junk movie. Of course it won an American Oscar Award, it was post Perestroika anti-Soviet propaganda financed through Western Banks. Neither Russia nor Mikhalkov had the money to make such a movie. While this trash was made, patriotic WW2 Stalingrad film "Angeli Smerti"(1990-93) received shoe string budget. There were also "Moskovskii Parad", "Vostok-Zapad". All anti-Russian propaganda with large budgets, none of them had a positive Russia attitude, they were all depressing.

"Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the Kalashnikov!"

reply

****** SPOILER FOR “Burnt by the sun” by Mikhalkov *************

Anti-Russian?! Are you kidding? And what about Urga? Did western banks also fund it?
“Burnt by the sun” could be anti-Stalin propaganda (anti-Stalin doesn’t mean anti-Russian, and even anti-Soviet), but I think, it was not.
You know, the script is not perfect for propaganda movie.
If I made a propaganda movie, I’d choose another script.
There's no good guys and bad guys in the movie. There is no good guy who’s suffered from unjust regime.
Actually, Kotov was a lot of the devil himself, and Mitya did not abuse an innocent victim.
And even if it indeed would have some anti-Stalin propaganda, so what? It doesn’t matter since the movie itself is very powerful. I don’t give a sh.t who funded it. It’s definitely a piece of art, a masterpiece, actually.
And as I said before, I think, "Burnt by the sun" is not a political or ideological movie. First of all, it’s a movie about power, about responsibility, about vengeance, about love. And Stalin regime is just a very good decoration for that story. And mentioning this movie in the thread, dedicated to that piece of nonsense and shame, “9ya rota”, is definitely an insult to Mikhalkov and all the movie fans. I’m sorry, guys.

I must agree that this was an awful film. It tried to be a pro-war version of "Full Metal Jacket" and "Platoon", but failed miserably. There were no plot whatsoever, and all the characters were either 2-dimensional caricatures or painfully cliche. Too bad, as with all the hype surrounding it I expected it to be mediocre at worst. Save your time and money, and watch FMJ for the n-th time instead of this one.

The Sick Boy method?

This movie is a pile of BS. The person who directed this does not deserve to be called a Slav. The real 9th Company slaughtered the mujaheddin for 6 of their own killed. But what this movie's Euro-backers want you, the viewer, to believe is that the Russian people are incompetent worthless creatures. This movie is anti-Russian and is a hate crime.

The French and their Europussies have spat on America and now they are spitting on Russia. I say that American and Russia get together and stomp on their asses.

reply

hey guys. american here and Im getting in to Russian Cinema. Im trying to get a good copy overhere and will probably end up bying your region 5 version for myself.

reply

It's not anti-Russian, and Russians lost terribly in Afghanistan indeed.

reply

It's the SCRIPT and the DIRECTOR, who is to blame. Not the people who fund it.

reply

That rapid hatered of the Frenchies really did give you up as Yank posing as russkie. So typically of your kind of pussies when you are no longer seemed as biggest bullies in the sandbox you try to team up with someone who has allways been stronger than you. You can now go back to "stomp your ass" as much you like.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSER

reply

not a bad movie. but then it's all about the tastes.

reply

Why are you calling it a bad movie? Because Bondarchuck came closer to Hollywood standards ( and even managed to surpass them)then any other Soviet/Russian director ever could, that's why you cannot stand it? Silly.
I think that "9 rota" in many ways is similar to his father's "Oni srazhalis za rodiny". No wonder he dedicated it to his dad.
Would you prefer a stupid Russian "serial" instead.
I won't give it a 10, but it well worth a solid 8.

I disagree, this film is a kind of Russification of Full Metal Jacket. War films made in the U.S. are not this real, only Saving Private Ryan comes close, I havent seen Clint Eastwood's new films, and I might have to, but this film is also helping me keep my Russian language fresh, so I kinda like for that, its hard to keep current otherwise.

reply

I got this recently and I have to say I liked it at first but looking back at it it maybe wasn't worth £15 of my money. In my books its still a good film, but its no classic. Maybe I was expecting too much...I dont know. Brotherhood (Korean war film) is one of the best made in my opinion, and after seeing that maybe I was asking for too much. But hey, I enjoyed the final battle so what are you gunna do?

reply

It was just dumb overall, didn't translate very well to Western Audiences. The first half is painfully boring. 90% of the dialogue was cliche and unnecessary. It was about 30 minutes too long. The characters were boring.
