THIS MOVIE WAS AWFUL!!!
Anyone agree?
shareNo
shareit was shockingly bad. It was too bad because Huey Long is one of my favorite politicians.
shareI haven't seen this movie, though the first movie sucked. It's my favorite book of all time, and I didn't expect much from the first movie, but boy was it bad. Great book, though. Same with It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis, with the dictator in it being influenced at least in part by Huey Long.
share"It Can't Happen Here" was a great book. If I remember correctly, Sinclair Lewis praised All the King's Men, which was also a great book. Unfortunately, both movie versions of the latter book were bad, but the latter is certainly panned far more than it should be. Yes, it was a bad movie, but one of the worst ever? No way. There were far worse films that came out last year, despite this one having so much potential. Man, they really botched it.
shareThe IMDb site is so worthless with morons like this posting. Why is it so "shockingly bad" wannabe movie critic?
shareNO!
shareThis movie was great!! Open your eyes!! The film is an indictment of today's super-corrupt, disgusting, national leaders, like George Bush, Dick Cheney, and the rest of the Republican and Democrat politicians who have drove the US into deep decline. We need a WILLIE STARK to run America. We NEED a plain talking honest man to work for the AMERICAN PEOPLE first and foremost, like Stark promised and delivered for the people of Louisiana.
The US NEEDS a man with the courage, like Willie Stark, to go up against the entrenched, parasitic, slovenly, corrupt, greedy, lying, stinking rich dirtbag self-serving politicians who are destroying America.
Since Sean Penn is heroically putting himself out there as an anti-war, anti-Imperialist American, him and his films are being blacklisted by the egregious pro-Empire, pro-Zionist media.
ALL THE KING'S MEN is a must see!!

I HATE all these Fox News types who come here to degrade this excellent film just to spite Sean Penn, and whose grading has NOTHING whatsoever to do with the quality of the film. Go hang out at Jack Bauer's 24 or something, for *beep* sake.
shareum... thanks for the generalization. definitely a fox news type and thought this film was great. i completely disagree with everything sean penn stands for, but his performance was no less amazing.
thought it was interesting that just about anyone, no matter how good their intentions may be, has the ability to be corrupted by power. fascinating film
This film aficionado agrees with Penn's politics, thinks his performance in this remake was brilliant, prefer it to the Crawford starring original, and shame on all you young adults for rating a faithfully brought to the big screen adaptation of Robert Penn Warren's riveting and Pulitzer Prize winning novel so poorly. The young can't seem to recognize art when they are exposed to it. Comic Book character movies are so much more engrossing. Oh Yeah!
FYI gang, Showtime is running a Vin Diesel marathon April 1. Happy Fool's Day!
"The Good Ol' US of A" has been completely corrupted since the coup d'etat of '63.
ian2shu you shut your BUSH-sucking mouth up. its a free country and i enjoy reading peoples view and comments.
My feet smells like *beep* Its becuase I stepped on dog poop.
I didn't dislike the film because it was produced by James Carville and starred Sean Penn. I disliked the film because it sucked. The novel is great, the first film adaptation by Robert Rossen is great. This one by Steve Zaillian is a film that was full of promise, but lacks a pulse and furthermore, lacks a reason to exist. Was this interpretation necessary when we've already seen the same story told in a much much much more intelligent way?
I did like the scene with Jude Law and Kate Winslet toward the end when they're fighting as they look for her brother. That was probably my favorite aspect of the movie actually, was their relationship. Sean Penn's performance was so bad, I actually was so embarrassed for him in the theater that I could feel my face burning up. I actually turned RED! I was humiliated that I actually praised this man for so many of his very good performances, and here he is making a total ass out of himself in the worst performance of the year.
its based off a real person.
no one seems to know this :\

i'd say it's a tad above average.
he has a lottttt in common with huey long but the author insists he didn't base it off him
the book is 9034823098 times better the movie is rediculous
Get with your rhythm, get with your nature

Everybody frickin' knows the novel and the picture are based on Huey Long. I mean that is, anyone with 1/2 ounce of sense!
shareWillie Stark is based off of Louisiana Governor and Senator Huey Long.
Huey Long held control of Louisiana because of his blackmailing and total control. Having politicians such as Long would mean broken promises to the nation's poor and in the end, facism.
Where do you think the Empire is headed right now Ms. Sarah?
share"Since Sean Penn is heroically putting himself out there as an anti-war, anti-Imperialist American, him and his films are being blacklisted by the egregious pro-Empire, pro-Zionist media."
Bigots like you praising the film are not a good advertisement.
Yes, the filthy rich insane businessmen that own the MSM, have dangerous influence over Hollywood film-makers and have the politicos and judges in their hip pocket along with the C.I.A. that does their dirty work and every branch of the Armed Forces don't dig Sean Penn because he has a platform and exposes their lies. They dump on anything he does and the sheeple lap it up since the vast majority would shred the Constitution in exchange for empty promises of safety. Keep fighting the good fight Sean and "All the King's Men is a fine film or else this aficionado would not have purchased a copy of the BD. IMDb continues to become less and less relevant.
I really think you should be careful what you wish for, etc etc. Huey Long, while no doubt in the beginning had right on his side and spoke the truth became a dangerously powerful demagogue, who disregarded many of the basic tenets of the US constitution, which whatever its faults is still the most even handed, just and reasoned piece of lawmaking in world history IMHO. Although he never quite achieved it, Kingfish was only a short step away from storm troopers in the streets of NO - it's not the American way, we have other recourses open to us.
shareTommybass, your posting is a joke, right? How silly can you be, spouting such drivel as Sean Penn is heroic, pro-Zionist, and blacklisted. That's just plain stupid. Penn is not heroic, he's a Socialist stooge (a "useful idiot"); he's not been blacklisted since he makes two or more movies a year. And words such as "Zionist" and "Imperialist" just makes you more of the same. For heaven's sake, get some education and stop sounding like an idiot.

I agree that it was putting me to sleep. I like 5-6 of the actors in the main cast but it didn't save the movie.
shareThis movie sucked. The plot was too boring to follow and there was nothing interesting going on.
Most of all, Sean Penn so over acted in this film it was ridiculous. I gave it a 4/10. Surley not worse then that. At times, Sean was quite impressive but was just way too much for me. Again though, dumb story.
Nighty-night Dumbo.
shareExcellent film... Top notch acting, sets and screenplay.
It grabs hold and doesn't let go.
Music Addict
After hearing so much negative buzz about this film, I admit I wasn't expecting much when I rented this recently.
BUT - I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised - this was very well done, featured a great cast, had some excellent performances (especially Sean Penn) and, yes, a few misplaced performances (Kate Winslet was basically wasted here) - but overall, I would have to give it good marks. Certainly better than the 6-out-of-10 rating on IMDB.
