The rape scene

Did anybody else find it a lil disturbing?

I mean I think the thing that did it for me the most is that it was happening to the lovely Jennifer Aniston. I just kept thinking "Oh my god you can't do that to Rachel!!!"

Was anybody else shocked by it?

SPOILERS* LOOK AWAY NOW IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THIS FILM*

Technically it's NOT a rape sene, he's just having sex with his GF, and she's acting scared.

It bothered me at first since it was such a violent scene, but what made it more disturbing is that they were truly lovers, having sex while a man is passed out on the floor next to them.

Rape is one of the most horrendous things that can happen to anyone, there would be something wrong with someone who isn't 'disturbed'by watching any rape scene, even if it is as a part of a work of fiction.
Regarding the comment by Empty Child ' It is literally a woman's worst nightmare'...what has gender got to do with it? I find it disturbing that someone can actually think rape only happens to women, ask any man or boy who has been raped...it's a nightmare for them too.

reply

Call me a nut-job, but I wasn't disturbed by the rape scene at all...

Last film seen -- "Meet The Spartans" 3/10

I was disturbed by it even though I expected Aniston to be in on a con but it was still disturbing.

YOU REALLY COME OUT LIKE JOEY TRIBBIANI: IF SHE WAS IN THE CON, THEN YOU KNOW IT'S NOT A RAPE. MAKE UP YOUR MIND JOEY!!

It was a little unsettling seeing Jennifer Aniston in a rape scene.

reply

The Rape scenes were very shocking but Jennifer looked very hot in that skirt shame we didn't get to see her Panties

I just saw this movie for the first time today. I agree completely with most of the posts on here.
I find any rape scenes very disturbing and makes me feel anxiety. This particular scene was not the most graphic, but as most people were saying, it was the gun to her head & her whimpers and the fact that clive owen couldnt\didnt help her that made it horrifying.

I was quite shocked by this, because i wasnt expecting it in the film.

Once i found out the twist, i felt alot better about it, knowing that it wasnt really rape. (but at the time it appears that it is)

I think when i watch this movie again, that scene will not have as big an impact on me and will find it easier to watch, because i will know that its just a scam.

I was watching this on tv last week and as soon as I saw the rape scene, I turned off the tv. I was really haunted by it. But now that I have read these spoilers, I would like to watch the whole movie or read the book.

Go ahead and do it, Shmoopie1. Now that you're in the loop you might find out that the alledged rape didn't even happen, just because there was no use for it after all

I found the rape scene so disturbing because it was portrayed so real. The part where Jennifer Aniston tries to run and unlock the door and then he pulls her back and there's that one moment where she puts her hands over her eyes and says something like "oh god" just before he "rapes" her. It just disturbed me so much so I was actually quite relieved when I knew she was in on the scam!

The horror of the scene is blunted later on when you find out she was in on the scam and it wasn't a genuine rape.

Rather like the castration scene in Hard Candy - it loses its force when you learn that it was faked.

Both scenes quite scary first time round, but not on a second or further viewing...

I never loved your mind, Dewey Daniels, I never loved your mind!

I found it very traumatic and i kept thinking "no, not Rachel" but then i kept thinking "it's only acting" cos no-one wants that to happen, it's horrible and i wish i had never seen it now.
