I mean I think the thing that did it for me the most is that it was happening to the lovely Jennifer Aniston. I just kept thinking "Oh my god you can't do that to Rachel!!!"
Was anybody else shocked by it?
"Nobody Bitch Slaps Brenda!" Brenda Meeks (Scary Movie 4)
Well that's what happens when you watch her playing the same character for 10 years! The same way I'll always see Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy, Calista Flockhart as Ally McBeal, Debra Messing as Grace Adler, Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw and Amy Jo Johnson as the pink power ranger.
Typecasting happens easily enough. That's why many movie stars are reluctant to sign on television series for a long time.

How can you see them as those characters, when sometimes they act completely different to them? I admit, sometimes they play similar characters and so it's quite hard to get rid of that image, especially Matthew Perry in 'The whole nine yards' but Jenifer's character was noticably different from Rachel in this movie.
Right, I didn't think of Aniston as Rachel or anyone else, just Lucinda. And when I saw that scene for the first time, I was pretty disturbed as I didn't expect it to happen and I had no idea that she'd turn out to be a scammer.
Up until that point, the movie was pretty calm and then you're just hit with one horrifying event after another. The direction and the performances of the actors in this film were great.
ok im a guy.. and i presonally found this scene a bit disturbing. Ugh its disgusting to see horny bastards freakin doing that ... ew. Thats sick. but yah and i also dont think that the whole Jennifer Aniston line where she says " i think i want to *beep* you." was neccesary i found it weird.
I found the rape scene quite disturbing as well. I get very angry over this, and I literally want to kill the character myself. I also agree that Aniston saying she wants to f him came off really wrong.
Yes i found It very disturbing the first time i watched it it was a shock i didnt really expect it to happen but after you watch it a second time its not disturbing coz u no wots going on!
I wasn't at all shocked or disturbed by the rape scene. The reason why was that as soon as he started raping her I knew they were scamming the guy.
It's not disturbing because he wasn't really raping her. I had no idea what this movie was about when I rented it. I had just heard that it was good and shocking. I couldn't believe while watching it how obvious it was what was going on.
I am really surprised more people haven't stated a similar oppinion. I would recommend watching an older flick called House of Cards. Or the Sting. Those movies, you go into knowing it's a scam setup and you still are awed. I honestly thought Derailed was going to be about an affair and quickly figured out what the plot was about. There wasn't any surprises at all, and was basically pretty sloppy. The guys who did this movie made it way too obvious. I mean, didn't you kind of think something was up when she picked the hotel? I just kept thinking, "scam" and then when the guy starts to rape her, I was like, "Oh hell ya, it's a scam." I mean seriously, come on? I can be fooled pretty easily by a good film maker, but how could this flick have surprsed any of you?
No offense intended but I am really shocked this movie has seemed to fool so many viewers.
the rape it self wasnt actually that horrific, i think the most disterbing part was when he ripped her tights. the rape itself was only shown minimally and from Clive Owens point of view
I'll admit, I was very disturbed and felt soo freaking bad for her. Even though I watched till the end and know they were lovers, I still feel leary about watching it again. Her cries were just too much.
Left Coast, what was it with "House of Cards" that was a scam? I love that movie, but i cant remember any scam. Just curiouse.. Cause u mean the movie with kathleen Turner , right?
Second of all..it was a very heavy rapescene, worse than in most movies about rape. Though, I figured out the plot right away, so when it was finaly out in the open i didnt even think about it..I just took it for granted that it wasnt suppose to be a shocker at all, since it was so freaking obviouse that she was a part of it.
I had my doubts during the rapescene though, and the scene in the apartment when they "kidnapped" Lucinda. Cause she did the "sad little scared victim" thing pretty good. Other than that she was boring, boring , boring!!
I was actually very disappointed that she was a part of the scam. Cause i really liked the fact, and had looked forward to the fact that she finaly got to play a part where she really had seriouse issues to act out. To see her deal with anxiety, terrible memories etc etc, and not beeing just the funny girl.. But no, offcourse! She only had to "Pretend" having theese feelings. I want to see her in a role with a little more meat to it, more dept..
Maby that was what made her so boring, cause she didnt actually feel any of the things that happend to her.
O, Oh..one more thing. One very important thing that made me understand the plot was that they didnt call her to ask her for money. They didnt harras her at all! Other than kidnapping her to treaten him. And, why would he give up his daughters life by giving away all theyr savings, to protect a woman he had just met at the train a month earlier?
I just saw this movie for the first time because it was available at a local library. A guy friend of mine who's in his mid-twenties was visiting, and I had the movie on my end table. He said he saw it when it first came out, and that there was a rape scene in it that was quite disturbing. Having read the plot outline on the box, I had no idea this was in the movie. Since I'm no fan of violence and find watching it to be upsetting, I just advanced the tape at the point when that guy comes in the room. All I can say is if my friend, who's very open-minded, was disturbed by it, it must have been awful. I see no reason why they had to be graphic. Anyone watching a movie like this "gets the idea" without them having to be so explicit. This isn't entertainment, it's garbage, plain and simple.

You're such a pussy
"Ah! Strip clubs: where all men are created equal."
Yes...that's it. When he ripped at her tights or her knickers or whatever I was (very) minorly distrubed, but you know, I thought they handled that scene pretty well (I was one of those slow ones who didn't pick the twist until she kisses LaRoche).
that's what i though too. i mean come on he was dizzy and everything but he could have done something instead of just lying there... (felt kinda bad for him though) i tought the rape scene was pretty realistic though i mean lucinda just sobs and begs, it made the entire thing very emotional... i thougt it was a strong scene, wouldn't call it shocking though
At first I was like: OMFG! But when I discovered she was his gf, I realised it was just an act and for some reason it didn't do much to me in the freakin' out part.
Actually, it was this scene that really led me off track. I saw it for the first time today and someone who had recommended the movie to me warned that this moment in particular was disturbing. So I was cringing in the moments leading up to and during that part. In a way it helped me enjoy the movie more because I was looking at it from Clive's perspective. I wouldn't have considered she was in on it because then nobody would have warned me. The whole time I figured the movie was going to go down the route of him coming up with some really crafty way of screwing the guys over with the help of the detective. I think if I'd known or had any hint as to the ending I wouldn't have enjoyed the movie at all.
How much do you expect anyone to fight with a gun in their face? Personally, I didn't think the rape scene was particularly graphic or shocking and that was before I got to the end. BTW, what does it say about the world that some people even watching movies are on the lookout for a scam?
Yeah, it was really disturbing. Very hard to watch. Also her death scene was just as disturbing. It gave me nightmares. That look on her face when she gets shot and those funny sounds she was making as she was dying. Wow! Chilling....
Wow. The rape scene wasn't even half as disturbing as your comment!
You would rather have your wife/mother/daughter fight to the death instead of get through the ordeal however she can and survive?
Because thats basically what you just said. Not upset the rapist and just get it over with (and live) or fight to the death (and die).
I mean thats pretty fking sick man. Rape is a terrible thing.. but it sure as hell isn't worth dying over. Or then again maybe you're one of those guys that believes a woman's chastity is the only thing she has to offer.
Only a man could not find this scene disturbing. Typical. What if it was a man held at gun point being raped in his ass by another man. Would you find it disturbing then? Or if you imagine your mother or wife or daughter in Jennifer Aniston's place? How about then?
I saw the movie with no previous knowledge whatsoever about what was going to happen. The way it should be. The rape scene made me feel anxiety, as I was watching it from Clive Owen's character point of view as it made feel powerless that I took a girl to a hotel room and she was being sexually assaulted with me just lying there like a useless piece of s*** I enjoyed the movie because it made me experience that. Her cries and sobs made it worse that any graphic detail they could have showed.
