Milk and ice cream?

What's up with Maggie pouring milk into the ice cream carton? I've never seen that before.

Do people actually do that? Why?

When you're single, unemployed, bored and has no direction in life, that's what you do.

I did once put frozen strawberry yogurt icecream in my rice krispies cereal and milk. It was very good...but not something I would do on a regular basis.

reply

ive done that before, with milk, vanilla ice cream, and nesquick (or however you spell it) mix it all together and it tastes quite good.
but that scene did look pretty gross. :P

reply

you're missing the point. the point is that maggie, at the beginning of the movie, is extremely selfish. she ruined the entire carton of ice cream by pouring milk into it, without even thinking about the fact that it wasn't her apartment, wasn't her shoes, wasn't her ice cream, wasn't her man...etc. It shows the trasnformation and I think that you are looking at it far to literally.

reply

It softens the icecream and it tastes yummy

reply

I had never seen that before until I saw this movie, so I tried it and it totally made the ice cream smoother, though sometimes kind of icy. Now I do it all the time. Fun!

reply

Try putting orange juice in vanilla ice cream....yum! You get orange creme.

I experimented making a sandwich. White bread, cheese, and italian dressing. Disgusting!

Well, one time, I ordered Rocky Road and they didn't have enough, so they poured some milk into it? I guess it makes the ice cream creamier and like a smoothie ish? I don't know. But I've heard of it before, though.

Oh I've seen people put so many weird foods together that the milk and ice cream thing is nothing to raise an eyebrow over. Milk and ice cream are the same food at least...both dairy. I've seen people combine foods that are nothing alike and it seems so weird to me I can't imagine it tasting good. I saw someone make a peanut butter and bacon toast sandwich once. My husband once put leftover white rice on a piece of bread and ate it, and another time he put a little bit of oatmeal that was left in the pan on a slice of toast and ate that. I saw someone put catsup in cottage cheese once, which looked really yucky to me. I can't imagine that tasting appetizing. I read about a famous, fancy restaurant in London that makes ice cream and sorbets like bacon&egg or sardine. People pay hundreds of dollars to eat there. So the milk in ice cream is nothing.

It tastes good with reese's or snickers..or any yummy chocolate treat!

Alotta Fagina: Some sake, Mr. Cunningham?
Austin Powers: Sake it to me baby!

Laverne and shirley drank milk and pepsi. And it was pepsi that paid for that advertisement.

I had a college roommate who used to pour milk into ice-cream and then spoon it into her mouth. She said it softened up the ice-cream. She's not the only person I ever saw doing that either. In the film, I think it's shown to illustrate what a slovely habit it is of maggie's and how selfish she is. If you pour milk into a carton of ice-cream and then eat directly from it, you are claiming it as your own as surely as a dog that whizzes on a tree to mark its territory. Maggie marks her territory all over Rose's apartmnet like that.

The milk and ice-cream thing is a personal idiosynroncy. It's meant to be a little disugusting, quite messy, kinda dnagerous and very rude. Sort of like guzzling orange juice out of the carton while sntnading in front of the freidge. Maggie also zips open a soda that fizzes over and unto the floor at Ella's place without any care as to the mess she is making. It's just another metaphoe for who Maggie was before she goes to Ella's - maggie the Hurricane - Maggie the Tornado. She alks in, blows everything down and leaves wihtout a thought as to who will have to do the clean-up, right?

Remember this is based ona a novel - that milk & ice cream bit may have been in the book.

I use to put milk into my ice cream when I was little. The ice cream became iced over on the outside and creamy in the inside. It is really good, you should try it.

reply

Yeah that's actually how I like to eat my ice cream. My friend erin and I eat it like that and everyone just thought we were weird... until they tried it. haha

reply

Did it all the time as a kid...recently did again after seeing the movie. I love it because it makes all these ice crystals form in the ice cream and it's just fun to eat that way. Somehow it makes the flavor of the ice cream more intense.

reply

I think it was probably to make the ice cream softer.

He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.

I thought it was another instance of Maggie's laziness. She was too lazy to get a bowl so she just poured in the milk and ate right out of the carton. To me it was just defining her character further. Lazy, inconsiderate, etc.

reply

That's not the point...why mix milk and ice cream in the first place? That's what we were getting at.

1. Ice cream is made from milk so I really don't see the big deal and 2. YOU'RE ALL NUTS! lol! Gotta luv it! lol!
Now go to my "Movies that make you cry..." post. I wanna know!!! lol!
