Milk and ice cream?
What's up with Maggie pouring milk into the ice cream carton? I've never seen that before.
Do people actually do that? Why?

yeah, I've never seen it either. But it made it easier to set up for the spilling the ice cream on the shoes bit.
shareEveryone has something 'unusual' that they eat, and it wasn't a poor setup, per se, as they could have used anything to cause the stain. Ever hear of a milkshake?? maybe she was going for a something good with less sugar? Regardless it wasn't a weak point in the movie.
shareActually, that's exactly what a milkshake is--although of course ice cream does of course have a lot of sugar, so I don't see how that qualifies as "something good with less sugar." Maybe she was making sort of a ghetto milkshake and she was just going to stir the milk in with the ice cream in the carton.

Yeah, that was worded very poorly... I was just trying to point out that adding milk to ice cream is very common (ie milkshakes) and her logic in that particular scenario was probably to dilute the sugar content.

that was milkshake indeed i didnt think of that when she did it, i assumed it just showed she didnt care what she ate etc
hi everybody...i just saw this movie and i really enjoyed it...i enjoyed it so much that i got on this website to find more info...and i even just registered so i could view the message board.
anyway
this may be searching for connections but with all the anylyzing poetry in the film and the comment about setting up for spilling the milk on the sister's shoes,
could it be a visual metaphor for the character's own spilt milk in her life and the fact that she spills it on her sister's shoes shows how her mistakes are affecting her sister because they are her sister's shoes just like her mistakes are messing up her sister's life.
"Dont cry over spilled milk"
by the way thanks for your patience if im a little redundant when i try to make a point.

As a kid (long before Laverne & Shirley) I did once mix milk and coke. It tasted absolutely disgusting.
shareremember laverne and shirley it milk and coke? i'm not sure
I saw it with a full stomach and that scene almost made me gag. She does that almost right after waking up and later on she says she doesn't eat breakfast. What's up with that? I guess one couldn't even call that a breakfast.
I know she eats unhealthy and likes sugar a lot, but I think even half a cup of sugar with coffee is easier on your stomach than the ice cream/milk mixture. Especially in the morning.
I'm not really seeing how an acidic thing like coffee could be easier on the stomach than milk. But that's just me.
shareI can't think of anything easier on my own stomach than ice cream and milk. For instance, ice cream is one of the first things I can eat and keep down after having stomach flu.
Anyways, nothing wierd about ice cream mixed with milk. Yes, that's the most common way to make a milkshake. However, it is rather weird to just poor the milk into the ice cream carton and start eating out of it like a bowl of cereal. But then everyone has their quirks.
a lot of people do that, lol.
I guess it's weird for most of you? milkshake..
Well, that's not *quite* a milkshake, rather a puddle of milk on top of some ice cream.
Not that there's anything wrong with that.
eh yeah
well she was being nosey or something at the time and didn't have a chance to mix it ? haha
it tastes the same as a milkshake not that big of a different really....
shareI only eat ice cream with milk unless it's in a cone. Otherwise it's too dry for me. I love soupy ice cream.

actually i use to do it all tthe time as a kid. what it does is it makes the icecream a litttle bit smoother to work with not like a big hunk of ice cream kinda like a frosty.
shareI thought I was the only one who ever put milk on top of ice cream. I don't know what made me do it one day, I just did it once and loved it. I only started doing it in recent years. Then I saw Maggie do it and I was 'omg!', there are other weirdos out there! lol.
sharelol. I missed that part, so I don't actually know what happened. But from the question, I can tell you that when i was a young kid, I used to pour a little milk in my ice cream bowl. It made it softer and more icy. Nowadays I just put the bowl in the microwave for about 10 seconds. I have no idea why I am even discussing this - reading this post just brought back memories of that!
sharewell i dont add milk to my icecream but i use to when i liked milk alot. now i put a huge spoon full of peanutbutter in my icecream rather choclate or vanilla.
shareIf you add milk to ice-cream, it's probably because the icecream is near-frozen. If that's the case, however, you should mix it. The milk will absorb into the icecream and thin it out.
Milk and... coke, you say? That doesn't sound too good. A Soda-float sounds great, though. You know... Icecream and soda? Rootbeer Floats? Cola Floats? ... 7-Up Floats? They're not common now, but they were popular in the 80's and the early 90's.
