Bits you Didn't Like (All Series)

I love Peep Show - but there's always going to be something we wish wasn't there. For me it's the animal bits. I never find animal death's funny - but for some reason every comedy I know and love seems to find it appropriate to 'off' some animal in a vile way. I never watch the pheasant thing with Mark - but I get the gist. Hate that Peep Show did this. And though I find the Mummy incident less offensive (it was an accident...to begin with), I still wish comedies would avoid this area. I just find it a bit ...wrong.

So what bits of Peep Show do you dislike?

jez killing the dog and covering it up was fine up until he actually ate it...that was a little over-the-top

i don't enjoy any of the sexual assault jokes, ie: the lesbian raping mark, or super hans making sophie's teenage cousin give him a blowjob. it's not funny, it's just uncomfortable.

reply

Yeah that dog thing was too much.. a bit. And Mark cutting his hand to just get's Sophies attention went a slightly too far too. And every part with Dobby, I just hate her.

interstingly some of the things people dont like are some of the scenes I've found funniest.

Jez eating the dog, I found that very funny, the expression Robert Webb pulled when doing so and the way Jez pointedly kept saying Mark should have some "turkey".

The AA scene I also found very funny, the way Johnson kept expecting Mark to say more and he felt he had to oblige and come up with more degrading anecdotes.

But the gym plot, I didnt like that at all either. It is such a despicable thing to do and really knocked my liking for Mark.

I take my words back, Dobby ain't annoying after all. I didn't like her when I was watching for the first time but now she's alright.

I'm at the fourth season and I can't think of anything i dislike right now. I'm not a fan of cancer jokes, but i just don't mind them.

I find the part when Mark cuts himself absolutely hilarious.

"Brilliant! A poem! Get a cup, we'll catch the blood and I'll write her a poem!"

The only thing which bothered me were the jerk off noises when Jeremy was being given that sympathy hand job by his neighbor who was talking about her divorce. And Jeremy is all 'Im so gonna feel low when this is over"

Sorry, forgot the chick's name.

I bench press all of Shakespeare whilst reading them.

I really reeeeally hated the episode where Mark gets bullied in the safari park. Seeing Jez turn on Mark like that made me uncomfortable for some reason.

I didn't like a lot of series 5... I thought this was when Jez was at the height of his *beep* And there were characters I hated like that Australian woman who moved in with Mark (though I'm aware we weren't supposed to like her). Series 6 and 7 were my faves because Jez and Mark really supported each other and showed their affection for each other... sort of. I'm thinking the book club scene and Christmas morning with the stockings.

Yeah come to think of it, i never watch series 5. I thought it sucked. Well, sucked by Peep Show standards, so that means it is still ten times better than most other sitcoms :)

I hated Mark invited Saz to move in with him. He knew she didn't like him, and she only pretended to like him to stay at his flat.

Wasn't a fan of Mark cutting himself either - was a bit too graphic.

I also agree the ep where that woman rapes Mark is not one of the best. That bit was stupid but as also pointed out how much of a nob Jez is. He went from being a bit selfish but a loveable loser to just an spiteful idiot.

It was a fun episode but JLB just shutting out of nowhere was a bit far-fetched.

Still minor negatives in a great show

What, in this economic climate? And clearly Johnson kept the workers in the dark until the very last minute.

Not at all, in fact it is very believable.

In 2003 The Accident Group - a personal injury claims company in Manchester, UK, made 2400 staff redundant overnight, many only receiving the news by sms/text message!

"Remember, you have to make it home to get paid" (The Dogs of War)

reply

JLB closing over night seems totally plausible, If the company was to go under then the least plausible thing would be Johnson turning up to tell everyone!

I didn't like the bit where Mark tells Big Suze that he doesn't like her that much, and finds her a bit horsey, despite the fact that he loves her.

I just found it really disappointing, although not exactly out of character.

I didn't like the whole Mark and Saz thing either, Saz was an absolutely horrible human being.

For me; most scenes involving Elena. Terrible character, awful actress...

Hopefully she's now gone.

Elena and Nancy - selfish, pretentious...urgh.

Truly Happy Mondayed.

Nancy kind of grew on me by the end of her 'run', Elena probably would have done the same since they were slightly similar. She did have some funny moments though. Although Nancy had that 'meth' line which for some reason i just love. It's not particularly funny but i guess it's the way she says it so nonchalantly that i liked.

Nancy does get some funny lines (EG probably my favorite statement on Americans and race issues, even better that the actress is Canadian: "Jeremy, I come from America, I've seen the problems race brings up. Now *beep* me and pretend I'm your mom!"). But after Toni his girlfriends didn't really seem as well-integrated or organic to the show - more like they were there because he had to have a love interest. I skip over most of Elena's scenes when I rewatch episodes, and probably all of Zahra's. Doesn't help that Jeremy wasn't as consistently well-written as the series went on, in my view.
