Least favorite main character

Who is everyone's least favorite main character from The Office?

reply

If we're counting Nellie as a main character, then Nellie is my least favorite.
Otherwise, Meredith is my least favorite.

reply

Darryl and Stanley are the worst. Each one is a POS.

reply

Yeah , can’t stand Nellie , or Meredith , or Kevin either, BTW is Kevin supposed to be mentally challenged with retardation or autism?

reply

Is Phyllis considered a main character? If so, mine's definitely Phyllis.

reply

Stanley for me.

reply

Michael.

reply

Michael is your least favorite. How is Michael your least favorite character?

Explain if you can!

reply

He was funny at the beginning and I liked him, but as the writers ran out of things for him to do and he became a caricature, I found him annoying and frankly tedious, so I was glad when he eventually left. This is what can happen if you let a series go on too long.

reply

I am sorry but if you like someone in the beginning, I don't get how a character ends up on the bottom of the totem pole.

The fact of the matter is Michael and his idiosyncrasies have never changed. As for your opinion that a series running too long makes the characters less likable, well... I disagree and here is why. If anything, Michael has become less like a caricature as the series went on. In between his goofy nature and crude remarks, the show did a good job of developing his character. There were a lot of scenes that elicit a sympathetic response from the viewers in Michael's case, especially in the seasons leading up to him leaving the show.

You shouldn't take yourself so seriously and learn to enjoy comedy for what it is and not what you think it should be. This is not an art installation.

reply

You may not get it, but that's what happened. It also now appears somebody else doesn't like Michael. Anyway the OP asked for my least favourite character, so that's what I posted. I don't take my self seriously, if anybody is doing that it's you. Oh and also you are a condescending piece of sh!t.

reply

What a coincidence! 

I was thinking the same thing about you with your responses to everyone else!

reply

You're a sad individual aren't you. Just because I don't worship at the altar of St Michael of Scranton you get your undies in an uproar.

reply

Not to good with critical thinking are you? Kind of like in the thread when you said "less is more" and my response was "whatever!" Trust me, it has nothing to do with your dislike of Michael. 

You are not a moron but you do like to pretend to be a moron, right? It's okay most people that are deluded do have a hard time self reflecting.

reply

Read the directions and directly you will be directed in the right direction.

reply

Did I hit a nerve? Don't be such a cry baby pretentious douche. 

reply

Never floss with a stranger.

reply

Avoiding the argument is only making you look like a fool.

Some common sense at last. Roy was also to blame for the break up of the engagement, and Pam to a certain extent.

Oh for Pete's sake, Jim torturing Dwight!!!! That's the most idiotic comment I've read for some time. Though this is an Imdb message board, so the occasional head case is to be expected.

Replying to other posters with such pejorative undertones as if your opinion carries more weight than others is quite presumptuous of you.

How about a real debate on the issue because your stodgy quotes are irrelevant. What we should be discussing is why you believe it's ok to belittle others for the sake of your own opinion. I am simply trying to call out your behavior and would like to hear why you feel it's necessary to act like a douchebag to other people?

Or are you going to just quote another insignificant person/book/or movie? Like I said, critical thinking is not exactly your forte. 

reply

I'd give the shirt right off my back.

reply

Can't even give me a debate on your douchebag behavior. Just as I thought, you are nothing more than smoke and mirrors.

How pathetic. 

reply

Man you should have seen them kicking Edgar Allen Poe.

reply

Kiki I hate to break this to you but all any third parties here see is you pathetically trying to pick a fight more and more desperately when you don't get the reaction you want. Hes not the one looking like a fool here. He's entitled to his own opinion on this tv character lol

reply

He was obviously spoiling for a fight, but I didn't have the time and certainly not the interest to indulge him. So I just posted irrelevant phrases until he went away. Which he did. A method I've used on other sites, works every time.

reply

That's exactly what I just a pointed out...stuff like this is WHY they try to pick fights with you, you ARE very condescending on these. But I still think them trying to pick a fight over your valid opinion was ridiculous which is why I commented.

reply

I felt the same way.

For the first season or two, his approach to bad management was novel and sometimes humorous, but as the show went on, he became less appealing to me until I began cringing at many of his scenes. His style got old. That is why he went from being one of my more interesting characters to one of my least favorite characters in the series.

reply

I adore Michael , and was so devastated to see him leave . I rather think his character became less like Michael , more rational and more sane as the seasons leading up to and including, his last season.

reply

Jim. He's a bully, a douche, holier than thou and constantly flirted with an engaged woman and broke up their marriage. He's an awful person.

reply

Dwight getting revenge with the snow balls was great. It should have happened more often.
Also they should have written-in Jim getting smashed by Roy.

Get on the scale son! Get off the scale.

reply

I LOOOVED when Dwight destroyed him with the snowballs.

reply

Sure, maybe it was because of Jim that Pam and Roy broke up. But that relationship was never great and Pam wasn't happy there. She's much better off with Jim. Roy never could have given her the life and family that she wanted. Jim stepped up!

reply

Some common sense at last. Roy was also to blame for the break up of the engagement, and Pam to a certain extent.

reply

the only reason you think that is because roy is such a prick, it overshadows how Jim, can dish it out, but cant take it. hes one of those, sure hes better for pam, but roy was cray lol. jim loved his pranks, but if you ever better him, wah he gets all serious. something you see more often in the later seasons

reply

If you actually believe this, then you have some serious issues.

reply

I was never a fan of Jim. I thought he was a bully. I mean, okay, Dwight was a jerk, but he was also sort of socially awkward, and Jim never missed the opportunity to make him the butt of the joke. I felt like it went too far. To me, he and Pam were the cool kids, ganging up on the nerd.

I don't blame him for Pam and Roy, though. Roy was a jerk. I mean, that episode where he was going to give Pam sex as a Valentine's Day gift. He had no clue.

reply

I feel like it's quite obvious that they made Roy a jerk to make everyone think it's "okay" what Jim was doing. I'm sorry though, every time I watch I can't help but hate Jim for flirting with her knowing full well what her situation was. There's no excuse for that for anyone in my book.

reply

I thought Jim was a jerk in almost every way, but I don't think he was intentionally flirting with Pam. I mean, he scheduled a trip for her wedding so he wouldn't have to see her. He went out with other people. I think he really tried to get over Pam. He couldn't help that she liked him too.

reply

[deleted]

Michael treated Toby far worse than jim ever treated dwight

reply

He didn't break up Pam and Roy's marriage, as they didn't have one. He told her his feelings and left town. Pam chose to call off the wedding.

reply

+1

reply

I find it really odd how people will hate on Jim, but then feel pity for Dwight when he was much worse.

Jim constantly played pranks
Dwight constantly tried to get Jim fired

Jim looked out for others (including Dwight!)
Dwight only cared about himself

Jim saved Dwight from being fired
Dwight fired Toby, Stanley, and constantly tried to get Jim fired

Jim was cool as a boss
Dwight was a cruel dictator of a boss (though he chilled out a bit during his second chance)

Dwight showed disregard for other people's safety (he nearly shot someone in the office, shot Stanley with tranquilizers and proceeded to bang his head into a wall multiple times, terrorized Jim with snowballs, damn near killed half the workers with smoke inhalation, etc... Somewhat in his defense - he probably showed more disregard for his own safety

Granted, I did like Dwight more.

This is Carcosa. Take off your mask.

reply

YES. I couldn't stand him from pretty much the first episode. He's got this way of behaving that says "I think I'm really freaking charming." He talks in a library voice, always. He walks around with his hands in his pockets like a passive aggressive wimp. Why are his hands in his pockets all the time?! lol it bothers me. He and Pam (early Pam) are the most boring, dry, bland people in the office, with a very boring sense of humor, and they pick on Dwight simply for being a nerd. At least Dwight had personality in spaids, and tons of hobbies and interests, and lots of backstory. He was by far my fav character, Jim was my least, and early Pam was a close 2nd least.

reply

Dwight is my favourite character. But he was a douche. He thought he was better than everyone else, he was selfish, immature, he frequently put people in danger, he treated the other poorly... He definitely deserved being picked on. He wasn't just an awkward nerd, he was a total jerk too. Awkward nerds don't deserve to be picked on, jerks do.

I agree Jim was bland and didn't have anything going on for him besides the whole thing with Pam and I didn't like him until very far down the series. But I didn't dislike him either. He was just a meh character needed so Dwight could be funny.

reply

Dwight was also fairly misogynistic. He was hilarious to watch but I don't see how he can be defended as a person.

reply

What the heck is a 'library voice'? I never noticed where his hands are.

I agree about your assessment otherwise. Jim is repulsive, Pam is plain and boring - she could be replaced with a grey piece of cardboard and no one would notice.

reply

Jim and Dwight really deserve each other. Jim is kind of a douche, and I don't like the actor's face, voice or 'charisma' (such as it is). There's something inherently unlikable about Jim the character and the actor (at least for me), so I have zero interest in every second he's on the screen.

reply

"Jim. He's a bully, a douche"

Agree.

reply

Pam then Jim then Phyllis. Although Phyllis wasn't really that important to the show.

Get on the scale son! Get off the scale.

reply

Andy was so annoying at the beginning. He got better for a minute, then they made him even worse after Michael left.

But at least Andy could make me laugh, so he gets credit there. Phyllis, on the other hand, had no redeeming moments.

reply

For me it's the opposite. I hated Michael and Andy. But at least Michael could occasionally make me laugh (mostly thanks to Dwight) or feel bad for him whereas Andy was painful to watch all the time and didn't ever make me laugh or feel any empathy for him.

reply

My wife loves Phyllis, but I think she has no purpose on the show. Still, I like Meredith less.
