Any non-Asians who like this film?

I'm just wondering if this Korean War movie is appealing to non-Asians in the U.S. I liked it, but the dialogue could get cheesy sometimes. From watching Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down, the two best war movies I think, I wasn't much shocked or inspired by the movie. It was decently made though.

This film is awesome and far better than the 2 hollywood garbage films you just
mentioned!

reply

WHAT?! Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan are THE two best war movies ever made !

Well, I guess it's all opinion.. I thought this movie was kind of cheesy, but good for a Korean movie (I'm Korean)

reply

But the acting was superb!

and we were soldiers was great also

reply

"Good for a Korean movie"?

Do you think you might want to re-phrase that?

reply

Cheesy? More like emotional and excellent acting!

reply

You have to be an idiot to think Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan is garbage

Let me guess... Asia is super Kawaii?

Anyway, I really liked this movie but without the ending it wouldn't have been especially memorable.

Lithuanian here, and I absolutely loved it.

Well that sounds like someone with an agenda of some sort. But this was a fantastic movie. Of course the dialog will be somewhat "cheesy" when you depend on subs and can't speak the language. If you watch many subbed movies, it often seems that way. This movie was first rate all around. The only thing I found off putting was it seemed somewhat ham-fisted in it's attempt at being anti-war. Of course we get it - war sucks. But there hardly seemed an attempt to explain why they went to war. As if they were happily enjoying there little world then the gov't went and decided to be invaded! Idiots, what were they thinking? Would the alternative been to not go to war and be taken over? That is also a short sighted portrayal, but I think the point is valid.

I don't know if anyone get's where I'm coming from. I don't think it should be rah-rah about it. It just seemed as if all sides were evil except for the humble shop owner/ students whose lives were gonna be screwed with in any event. Maybe they should have moved to Canada or Hawaii before the war?

But this was a great movie regardless. "Saving Private Ryan" was outstanding as well, despite it's flaws, and to say otherwise lessens your influence as a critic.

I'm non asian and non us and I thought it was one of the best war films I've seen.

This movie is perfect. What surprised me in it is its scale and epic feeling. You can really see how war changes heroes, can feel time passing by. This movie is great even considering it gets a little cheesy in the end. But overall it's a one hell of a film.

I think that Korea is producing a lot of excellent movies lately, and anyone who's a film fan would know this. ;)

i'm korean, and naturally i thought this movie was great, possibly one of the best i've seen. but as for the cheesy dialogue, the subtitles made it seem that way. like the cursing for example, the korean cuss words are different from american ones, so of course it sounds a bit sketchy in english.

love this movie, just watched it again for the 5th or 6th time. one of my all time foreign favourites.

btw i am not Asian (English)

I'm from Chile, and I liked it. But I think that don't have many new things to offer compared with the US war movies. I only was hoping another korean masterpiece.
