Who Cried during this film?

Well, I just saw this movie for the 5th time, and I still cried at least 6 times during the movie? Did anyone else cry?

reply

I'm not a cryer, but I nearly had a lump at the end. So sad. I don't need to understand Korean to understand the pain they feel.

reply

The ending has and always get me to shed one or two tears.

i teared up and had chills in a few scenes. when the train leaves and of course the end battle scene was SO tear jerking and emotional. this is the only war film thats made me tear up and one of the only films of any genre to make me cry.

reply

This is seriously the only film I've ever watched that will make me cry just by thinking about it.

reply

Yup, those damn Koreans always know how to get people to cry...

reply

I know what you mean, every time I think the older Jin-seok at the end, his emotion and words and when he sees his brothers remains, and that whole scene brings the tears. It' the only film that gets me every time, that scene just kills me.

Got teary at the end when the older Jin-seok was kneeling over the carcass.

reply

I cried when the old jin-seok speaks to his brother's remains & when the granddaughter starts to cry.

A combination of the main theme, the mother who can't talk and the act of sacrifice for your brother struck a real chord with me and it's hard to not well up when watching the film

Yes starting pretty early;couldn't even finish film having just read Chris Hedges "War Gives Us Meaning" and knowing that the utter chaos is what's true about war,not discpline, order, and teamwork. He writes that even when US soldiers go to battle, they weeping, writing letters as if already dead etc. The only problem I Hnihave with Hedges' book is that it doesn't look at the disproportionate numbers of lower class who's only "meaning" aka social status can be accieved through war; Hedges acts is if there is an equal capacity amoung all people for desire for meaning through violence. The wealthy classes have charity, learning, companies to give them meaning which makes a difference. Also Hedges fails to talk abotu how horrible modern war is compared to war of the ancients. Mercenary armies were used, the French revolution is the beginning of the horror the draft will bring to average citizens to be turned into literal cannon fodder during WWI.

The behavior of humans in the 20th century puts a hole in your heart if your not careful.
