Coincidences between AVP and Prometheus (aka "AvPvP")

Just saw AVP for the first time tonight, there's a few strange coincidences...though I know people say they are not canon

- Predators and Engineers both similarly-sized humanoids

- Predators and Engineers both visited earth & worshiped by humans in antiquity

- Predators and Engineers both seeding the Alien species

- In both, Weyland subsidises expedition to mysterious, remote alien structure to investigate possible evidence of human race's origins, taking a team of scientists and anthropologists etc.

- Weyland killed by said humanoid aliens in both

- both have strong female leads (though this is inspired by Ripley I guess)

Just watched this, and I noticed that the scene on the ship where Weyland tells everyone why they've come to Antarctica was very reminiscent indeed of the scene in Prometheus where Holo-Weyland tells them why they're on the ship.

The list is endless, they're basically the same movie.

-Both movies are about a team of scientists on a ship heading to a classified destination. The trip is funded by a dying Mr. Weyland who wants some form of immortality.

-Both movies feature a strong female lead who lost her father when she was young.

-Both movies feature a storm that causes one character to save the life of another. (lex/Weyland)(David/Shaw)

-Both movies feature a geek and a hard-ass getting lost in the pyramid, bonding and then die.

-both movies end with a chestburster posing for the camera.

I swear to god, tell me Ford couldn't pass for Miller's sister. Ridley Scott said he never saw AVP, but the writers obviously did.

And even with a much bigger budget, Prometheus was (in my opinion) inferior to AvP, not that either of them are great additions to the franchise...

reply

True.

Both also pretty poor! Although I'm now thinking that perhaps this actually shades Prometheus.

Watched it last night and realised just how similar they are!

I thought AvP was quite forgettable after I saw it at the cinema, and P was a disappointing "prequel" to a much-loved movie.
