Why the SUPER FAKE beard?

That beard looked PARTICULaRLY fake on the Beard-Man. Not natural looking at all. I'm sure Hollywood stylists could do a better job, if they needed. It didn't even match the head hair.
What was the point of that fakery?

I own you.

reply

It wasn't fake.

reply

Because... you would know?

I own you.

reply

I am the Beard-Man

reply

And you would know it was fake... because?

reply

Because it looked like someone glued a cat to his face. I'd be hard pressed to find a more fake looking beard in the history of cinema...

The dyed beard is distracting, but that was a deliberate choice because of who the character is. http://www.cinesnob.net/archives/adam-scott-the-secret-life-of-walter- mitty/

It's pretty obvious when you pause it whilst watching it on blu-ray that it is a glue on. It never meets his sideburns convincingly.

Stiller & Co. decided to make all the bad guys in corporate wear beards and I imagine Adam Scott just couldn't grow a convincing enough beard in the amount of time required.

Hence, glued on beard from Halloween USA.

That's not exactly the answer. As I said, Hollywood stylists could do a better job, right? Or Stiller & Co. is particularly poor and saves on everything?

Maybe they went with the fake beard look because he was a total dick and they wanted him to look like a fake. I think he pulled it off perfectly. Kind of reminded me of Bill Lumburg in Office Space and gave new understanding as to why a lot of 2nd lieutenants got shot in the back in Vietnam.

Because the point is this guy is an Uber-douche, so even the beard he's affecting looks contrived, like a face toupee.

Even knowing that the actor Eric Bana is a rugby playing sort of person outside of his film gigs, I still wanted to throw a punch at that face.

Edit: apparently, it's Adam Scott, who just resembles Eric Bana. My fault.

reply

I went through the whole movie thinking it was Wes Bentley until the end credits.

Whoever he was he did a great job of playing a douche.

reply

Curious you mention Eric Bana, because his beard at the end of Hulk was also super fake.

reply

Characterization.

reply

Yeah, it bothered me too. Too fake looking.

reply

Its almost as if..... it was supposed to look like crap.
