Benjamin Button scene - why?!

Did anyone else wonder why this scene was included?

I thought it was terrible and made me think of Will Ferrell-style humor.

It didn't seem to fit with the rest of the film and there were plenty of amusing parts without it.

Did it strike anyone else odd that it was included?

Really loved the rest of the movie though... :)

Yes, that downgraded the movie substantially. Just way off in tone and takes you out of the movie completely.

Who says daydreams can't be surreal? They're often random and even if set off by something related can take sudden, wild left turns. Who here hasn't zoned out listening to someone forgetting not only what the conversation was about but the daydream?

reply

i thought it was hilarious. i never saw BB, but understand just enough of it to see that part as a parody. however, it didn't fit with the other daydreams. if all the daydreams were movie parodies, yeah, but that would have been a less interesting movie and moved it more toward "scary movie" type junk.

otherwise, a truly great movie.

and in reply to an earlier topic, i am of the opinion that WM did not imagine his time in greenland, iceland, and afghanistan.

reply

Of course he didn't imagine it. He imagines her (NAME?) there playing guitar and singing to him, he wouldn't be imagining within his imaginings would he?

Thats some inception level stuff right there.

reply

Great scene but yeah, not sure how it contributed to the film as a whole.

i have watched mitty many times on hbo. after the first time i saw it, i have changed the channel each time the button scene appeared. sad. ridiculuous. distracting. needless. and those who find it funny make me worry for the sense of humor of 2015 americans.

otherwise the mitty movie is top notch. i especially enjoyed the helicopter pilot and the first mate on the erkegsneck. adam scott was a fairly funny portrayal of a total jerk.

kristen wiig is a keeper. stiller did a good job on the movie. next time he might consider make a color movie not a blue and gray movie ala old fashioned b&w. after all there are 7 primary colors. the blue hue is rather unique but wears thin on multiple viewings.

I liked it as a jab at that Brad Pitt movie. Brad Pitt sucks

I have to agree. Plus they wasted time and money on doing the make-up for a scene that doesn't work in the movie.
