'The Most Boring, Tedious, Solemn, Self-Important Film Ever Made'
That's what this movie should have been called. 'Nuf said.
shareThat's what this movie should have been called. 'Nuf said.
shareLol@title. Redundancy at its best.
"That's what this movie should have been called. 'Nuf said."
It's not an action movie. Nuff said.
so boring,,, so lame,, uneventful,, no action,, bout fell asleep a few times watching it.. bad bad mvoie.
are you going to bark all day little doggie,, or are you going to bite
I agree, this movie was boring as hell...real snoozer.
shareI watched it twice, thought i liked it.
then after about 10 minutes of contemplating as to what i had just seen, i came to the realisation that, actually, i had no idea what it was about...
So im either stupid, or the movie was just sh*t. I prefer the latter.

I had read TreasureJuniper's posting and I wrestled with whether to respond. But, I chose not to because my response may have been similiar to yours and I did not want to offend him/her. So thanks for posting your comments.
sharewow; "Moron", "losers", "dicks".
Is your vocabulary THAT limited?
Thats probably why you appreciated not being able to hear people talk in the film... that way you wouldnt have to excersise your brain to understand something that is so obviously higher than you. That 'something' being the english language. 'Cinematography' not "photography" by the way.
I hope i didnt offend you zalbayati (moron).
I'll stand by "photography" dick, especially since the cinematographer in every film ever made is known as the "director of photography." You don't know anything about film, penis.
Thanks for your input Mr. DeNiro.
shareI agree with Zalbayati on page 6. Maybe some of the viewers posting on this topic know too little about the intelligence communities and the history of the Cold War to appreciate the quiet intensity of The Good Shepherd. The length of the film was necessary to tell the story. Aside from histories, perhaps one would have to be able to appreciate the early novels of John Le Carre or Graham Greene to 'get' The Good Shepherd.
Matt Damon's characterization of Edward Wilson (code name Mother for a reason) made me think the moral morasses of hiis career made being a spymaster the worst job even if it is the most intellectually exciting 'gamesmanship.'
I watched it with a movie loving friend. We found it thrilling and well-paced. I don't know what some were expecting. Perhaps an action flick?
As quiet Edward Wilson Matt Damon was excellent. Jolie's performance was her best since her youthful Gia. Crudup, Gambon, Pesci and Dullea all were excellent.
I'll not forget The Good Shepherd and appreciate it so much that I wish it were available in a 'Director's Cut edition. Or a novel.
I wasn't bored(maybe because I've seen it in 3 days :P) but I really didn't get the movie. Actually I was surprised knowing it was about the begining of teh CIA. Yet I don't understand, why were they peeing on him ? and how's that related to the CIA ? and yea, Matt was horrible.
shareHey, intelligent youngster, it is clear that you really did not get the movie. The pissing scene was a peek into part of the initiation process of the Skull & Bones at Yale(I think). It had nothing to do with the CIA. The film was relating the fact that many of our early CIA officers were recruited from the elite Ivy League schools and many belonged to the secret society of the Skull and Bones at Yale. Look at your history of the Skull and Bones and you will find that many, now prominent, Americans were members of the Skull and Bones.
Look at the topic "Class system" on this board and you will see a discussion about the "elite" that shaped our foreign policy and intelligence apparatus.
"'Nuf said" could not have made the point of ignorance better.
shareThe OP is dead on perhaps not about "the most" but otherwise...nail..head..hammer. I love dramas, I love bio-pics and historical fiction above all things, but this drivel was nothing more than a vanity project with De Niro holding the mirror. Before anyone throws out the cliche "don't get 'it' " comments, please, let me explain.
I "get it", what little there is to get. Not much to decipher, and there were no hidden meanings or underlying themes in this film. Edward Wilson is a man, who works for the CIA, is loyal to his country and his organization above ALL things including his wife and child. A wife whom he was forced to marry out of duty because they slept together once, on a beach when she was feeling amorous. Decades later, he has a fling with a (poorly acted) deaf woman and is involved with his sons fiances wedding day murder.
-The End. Wow...deep =/
I take a little Chigurh in my coffee.
