Is this the worst remake ever made?

I actually rented this with an open mind because I love the original Carrie, and I thought a modern day remake would be interesting, but this film was beyond awful and a complete embarrassment. Angela Bettis did great in her role, but overall the film was just a mess. I've never seen a remake this bad before.

I have not seen this version of "Carrie" but it cannot be worse than " The Sitter" I know it is not officially a remake of "Adventures In Babysitting" but it is and it is brutal ( worse than "The Rage Carrie 2").

Absolutely not. I think what a lot of people are forgetting is that this was a made for television film -- which was originally going to be a 2 hour long pilot for a television series, thus the reason it got a "happy" ending. It was really only left like that so the plot of the series could have been about Carrie's life on the run. It didn't have the $30 million budget that the new Hollywood remake Carrie got so they had to work with what they had. However, the show got canned and I don't remember why. It's the same thing that happened with Cruel Intentions 2.. the pilot was released as a movie after the television show got cancelled.

I love this remake, I own it on DVD. Although I found the original Carrie a little more scary, I liked this one better although it's been awhile since I've seen the older one. I read about half of the book when I was younger, and even I could tell this version was more faithful to the novel. Angela Bettis was "tailormade" for this role.. she does a bit of a similar performance in the movie "May" which has a similar premise but is also very very different. But this film has a lot of heart and emotion. Patricia Clarkson was great for the evil mom. All of the performances in this were pretty decent. I also loved the detective scenes scattered through the film, it was different. It would have been a kick ass TV series if given the chance.

My only gripe with it is the horrible CGI during the meteor shower scene and some of the things towards the end, but with the time it was made and its budget it's understandable. It was also a bit slow during the middle, but it definitely makes up for it in the finale.

I will add i have read here and other sites that say this remake is more true to the book version of Carrie

Have you ever heard of The Fog or One Missed Call?

This was actually good. Even better than original. Stop liking and defending something just because it's an original.

It's as bad as the original Carrie but there are far worse remakes. Prom Night, The Fog, The Omen, etc.

I actually really enjoyed this movie, it was the first dvd i bought, i stuck on to vhs hardcore forever before making the jump.

Especially considering it wasn't initially meant as movie, but a series pilot.

I'll definitely doubledip and buy the bluray combo, didn't know that existed until right now.

It's better than the garbage we get in theatres even, nowadays, TBH.#

:) Enjoy your day.

If you think this is the worst remake ever made then you need to enroll in a film appreciation course. The original is overrated and the newest remake is an embarrassment. This version is the best of them all.
