Is this the worst remake ever made?

I actually rented this with an open mind because I love the original Carrie, and I thought a modern day remake would be interesting, but this film was beyond awful and a complete embarrassment. Angela Bettis did great in her role, but overall the film was just a mess. I've never seen a remake this bad before.

I've seen both of those and I actually enjoyed them far more than this film

Just got done watching this. It had it's good parts but most were bad parts. Doesn't come close to the original. I mainly watched it for Emilie De Raven(SP).

No the worst remake is Psycho. This one is a fantastic remake that illuminates its predecessor and totally beats the Rage. it even improves on the original by making Billy more sinister and gave the film a happy ending.

Plus Tommy might have survived as well.....

I agree 100%. I think this is one of the best and maybe one of most important books ever written, so why can't they just make a movie with the right ending? The first one for some reason they made into a horror movie, then for some reason they thought "This is America, Americans like happy endings" so they twisted the ending for the remake as well. I'd rather there have never been any movie made so that the book would have been more popular.

Oh, god NO! Take a look a the numerous Freaky Friday's they have done...

Take a look at this movie versus the book, It's more in tuned with what was written in the book.

Not including that incredibly lame ending that is.

No, the worst remake of all time would have to be "Halloween" by Rob Zombie. Now that movie sucked!!! This remake was actually pretty good.

I would say no. There are tons of remakes out there that are far worse than this one. However, I will say that the 1976 version was far better in my opinion. Even Stephen King himself said that version was better than his own book.

Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie and Nancy Allen were absolutely superb in their roles. I can't picture Margaret White played by anyone else. Even though Piper Laurie was over-the-top, it worked in this film. Sissy Spacek may have been miscast because of her looks, but she still pulls it off beautifully. Her protrayal at the end was so much scarier than the remake. Nancy Allen as Chris was meaner, nastier and had no remorse for anything. The actress in the remake didn't seem all that mean. Amy Irving was a better Sue Snell, but the actress in the remake wasn't bad. The '76 version may be dated, but it is still considered a classic horror film, and that's what the director was going for.

However...There are some things about this remake that I liked. There are scenes from the book that were cut from the '76 version, and brought to life here. The meteors that Carrie brings when she was a kid. Carrie's destruction of the town. The gym teacher's correct name (not sure why they changed it in the original). The investigation into the prom fire.

But did anyone notice that the ending is different in both versions??

Black Christmas remake is the worst one ever with the remake of the Fog right behind it. The newest horrible remake to add to this list is the remake of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark..horrible!!!!!!!!

"Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn, and cauldron bubble."

Yeah, it was bad. It was so bad that I kept wondering if this was supposed to be a spoof of the original.

In fact, it was so bad that it had me laughing at times, like every scene where the tough-mama teacher was about to get medieval on all of the rotten kids' rump-sides.

And then when it got to the part where they said that Carrie made her own prom-dress, I was like "So now it's spoofing Pretty in Pink"?

And I looooved the end when the black chick had no idea what had just happened at the school, but was still bound and determined to find Carrie and get her out of town ASAP.

Alright, so I guess it can't be ALL bad if I got some good chuckles out of it.

But I don't know how anybody could take this POS seriously.

I liked Carrie's powers in this version better. The "meteor shower", the destruction of the entire freakin town, and the Prom Scene massacre were done so much better in this movie.
All Carrie did in the first one was set a fire hose on people and then set the place ablaze.

Lois & Clark 4EVER!!!
DC can SUCK IT!!!!

The worst remake I've seen would have to be When A Stranger Calls. Also, I think all the American remakes of Japanese films (The Ring, One Missed Call, etc.) are terrible.

Come, fly the teeth of the wind. Share my wings.

I wouldn't say so, It was a bad film, but you could see that they had tried, it wasn't like some remakes that make no effort and are just trying to get commercial success.

Other than the ending, it stayed closer to the book which I respected- The Destroying of the Town, Miss Desjardin, Carrie stopping Margaret's heart etc...

I liked a lot of the cast- Emilie De Ravin and Katherine Isabelle were good, Angela and Patricia did well (couldn't match with Sissy and Piper unfortunately). I liked the characterizations of Chris and Billy more than in the DePalma version because they were closer to the novel.

You could see they were trying to update it to apply the social commentary on bullying to modern day, it came off as contrived with the references but even so.

For these reasons I can't condemn it as the worst remake, the problem was the awful ending and the cheesy CGI for me, but it could have been decent otherwise. the Black Christmas remake will forever be the worst remake in my eyes.

Also, I don't consider this a remake per say, It was clearly drawing inspiration from the book so it is better described as an adaption.

I will hold myself in contempt of court!!

Hardly. The Fog remake and the Prom Night remake win that one and they were actual MOVIES. Besides, this is a tv movie and not only that but a pilot for what would've been a tv series. Cut it some slack.
