I know it's a long shot, but was chatting with Netflix....

About bringing back Carnivale, and the person I spoke with was not only VERY receptive to this, but made it sound like there was already a campaign within Netflix to do so! I know HBO hasn't been very flexible in the past, but if anyone can do it, NF can. They have already saved two shows that I know of in the last year or so, and Carnivale has fans who work at Netflix and are being vocal about it.

This JUST happened two minutes ago, and I came straight here, rarely post here, and VERY rarely start a thread. But this one I had to share. I do have a copy of the chat in my email. Also, I would encourage all fans to make this suggestion to NF. I am surely not the first, and by the response I received I believe the more the better. I think this is a better strategy than petitioning HBO. If NF gets enough response, maybe they'll offer HBO more money, and that is the only thing that can make this happen... money.

There was a trial against HBO and Dan Knauf for plagiarism.
It's pretty hard to prove someone read something. Even harder to prove who had an idea first.
I forgot the outcome of the trial. I think they settled.
But if it was plagiarism, it explains why HBO won't have anything to do with it and will not release rights to anyone.
It could make It hard for Netflix to gain rights.

It was settled amicably, with no admission of liability. An order of dismissal was filed on February 17, 2006.

I don't think this would prevent HBO from releasing/selling the show to another network.

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

I wouldn't count on it. It has been years since the show ended. For whatever reason HBO simply doesn't want to let go of the rights of this show. I'm sure as far as they're concerned, the show was wrapped up nicely. That really sucks too.

What is bothersome though is that there seems to be a demand for the show and HBO for whatever reason won't let go of it. There's money to be made from this show.

I gotta go feed that thing in Room 33.
