This film is honestly one of the most touching movies I've ever seen. I've seen it multiple times already and I never fail to cry buckets everytime I watch it. It just strikes a chord in your heart that moves you so deeply. So, so good.
This movie didn't move me even a centimeter. What was so touching about the last river scene? The old man lived a life of storytelling, so he says "tell me a story". So his son says "well I take you to the river, and all your friends are there". And that's it. Big deal. Totally un-creative. The movie was so over-the-top cheese that I didn't identify at all with the old man. Or with his boring son.

Guess this wasn't the film for you. You missed the purpose of the entire story.
The river scene is incredible. The pinnacle of Burton's career.

I would have had more emotion for the old man if he did something besides tell big lies. Anything else. But that's all he did. I was waiting to see it revealed that he was mentally-challenged, in which case I would have had more emotion for him. But he wasn't, was he?
