This film is honestly one of the most touching movies I've ever seen. I've seen it multiple times already and I never fail to cry buckets everytime I watch it. It just strikes a chord in your heart that moves you so deeply. So, so good.

Great cinematography, good acting, nice scenes, but the story itself is not great at all.
A lof of movies are better about the history and more moving. Phenomenon by example, of P.D. I love you.
There's two scenes in particular that make me cry. No matter how hard you try to fight it off.

One of the only scenes that I remember really making me cry a bit was when Edward comes back from the war after Sandra thinks that he's died. It is a moving film in many ways but that part just got me the most for some reason.

Hmmm...I've watched it twice now (once a long time ago, and just recently), and it seems like sentimental pap. Neat, so Dad tells outlandish (and frequently boring to watch) stories and his son doesn't like them.
Yeah it got me on the end, with the river story, dang...

Yes, the ending when the son still doesnt believe that a lot of the stories were true but some were because the people involved came to the funeral, that was touching. I thought it was a cute story nothing too outlandish but i found it enjoyable. Each to their own. :)
shareI'm male and 22, have seen all the classic tearjerkers, Grave of the Fireflies etc, and I have felt the lump in my throat at times(About Schmidt's ending does this) - but this is officially the first movie I've cried to. That's impressive considering I had no expactations except some eye-candy in the usual Burton style. I must say I'm grateful someone could show me what it's like, since you read about it all the time. Good work!

yeah...this is one of the few movies that gets me every time...the scene at the end by the bed when the son finally "gets it"...it reminds me of sitting by my father's bedside as he lay dieing. so, yeah, gets me every time.

shareI watched a long time ago but didn't really get it, yesterday I re watch it with my mom and sister and it hits me! Both of them were bawling their eyes out but I've got some sniffles too. Classic.

for every man who had a great father who, as they say, was able to make even the most mundane stories breathe life, it is a movie that will move you. have seen this a few times and am always in tears from the moment he is in hospital.
miss you dad
I lost my father pretty much the same way earlier this year (and yes he told pretty grand stories of his own hundreds of times till I could memorize them but I never doubted him as we knew it was all real) and this movie literally made me cry trembling, I never recall such an occasion before. It just struck home in every way possible. While my uncle was utterly bored at the same time and couldn't shut up talking about the most mundane stuff until the hospital scenes.

don't think he's made a great film since.. Tim's early stuff is all amazing.
