Is there actual sex scenes in this movie or is it just implied? I'm aware there is a lot of nudity, but I wasn't sure.

Looking at many scenes I don't see protection for the actors, I wouldn't be surprised, there was definitely some genital touching, and in "1900" a film by the same director there was a famous sex scene cut out, you can search it online, with three actors two very famous.

Unless they use body doubles, in most movies the sex is in some way real. Im not saying he put his penis in and came, sometimes an actor will be wearing a sock, sometimes not. But they basically had sex whether that happened or not. No need to get into semantics after that.
