This is still the best X-Men film.

The whole time travel thing in DOFP was a lame reboot/retcon, whatever you want to call it, of the series in my opinion. X2 was the best and most original of the series.

I agree :)

Absolutely. Considering the potential there was in "Days of Future Past" story, it's hard to not name that movie a disappointment. Still, there are good, inspiring moments in that. Fassbender and Jackman are fantastic in the movie for instance, Ottman wrote a couple of nice themes. It's partially successful I guess, whereas X2 is a fully successful movie. It's an original, fully realized (on every level imaginable) story, and it's one of the few truly direct sequels (without any substantial stylistic or thematic differences in relation to the predecessor) made within the genre. In my humble opinion, X1/X2 (as a unity) is the most compelling superhero production ever made in Hollywood.

I agree. The first two X-Men films still stand out as the best. Days of Future Past is not a bad film. The performances are excellent. As a stand alone film it just doesn't feel complete to me. It is what it is, which is a reset button to continue the franchise by appeasing the fans who were upset by The Last Stand. In that department I'm not complaining. It was great to have everyone back in the fold. I believe it relies on that nostalgia as the emotional core. Sort of cannibalizing the first trilogy of X-Men films in the process. I was at first elated about that but that quickly faded due to the lack of follow up. Namely that they are not continuing with sequels as well as prequels, which to me, would make more sense now. Oh well, like I said, It is what it is. Days of Future Past lacks the freshness and originality of the first trilogy in my opinion. X-Men and X2 are still the best in my opinion.

I share your sentiments. (Yes, I do realise this is an old post)

Right, right. The way relationships are presented in those first two is very unique. And they are very modest pictures, made with care and honesty. Singer was hugely successful in achieving balance between intimacy and spectacle. Those first two movies are very strong.

reply

Not only that, but the first two really encapsulated what the X-Men are about in a way that no other X-Men film has. The way it tackles prejudice and alienation not just for mutants but for Wolverine personally.

reply

I guess you're right.

reply

Yes, its by far still the best X-Men film.

Same here! By far the best in the series. Certainly one of the best intros in any CBM.

I tend to have trouble choosing between X2 and X-Men: Days of Future Past.

agree the rating it shod be in the top 250 list, i mean if batman trilogy is in it why not this .

I consider it the best as an X-men sequel (it does require seeing the first to understand some things), but I thought the Wolverine 2013 was the best as a stand alone film.

Hated X-men First Class.
McAvoy and the guy playing Hank McCoy were alright but the rest of the young people had a real lack of charisma and some line delivery sounded like a amateur school play (Jennifer Lawrence).

And I was not blown away by the Magento casting--he's nothing like McKellan.

Thank goodness for old timers like Bacon being there to enliven things up.

Yeah, X2 is, in my opinion, the best X-Men movie (with the first X-Men coming second.) I liked Days of Future Past, but it fell short of the first two, in my opinion. I don't really care for any of the other X-Men films (so far.)
