I need your help - Is Undisputed the best boxing film?

Hi everybody I am doing a project for college on boxing films. Basically I want your opinions. Do you think that undisputed is the best boxing film of all time? If so why/why not? Do you feel that undisputed accuratley portrays the sport of boxing? If so how?
Finally, have any of you taken up boxing after watching undisputed?
If you can help me I would be very grateful

Thank you for your time

No it isn't. It's a good 90 minutes of mindless entertainment, nothing more. But the fights WERE extremely well choreographed.

TORMENT! holy crap...this movie was a disgrace. will someone tell me the moral of the story. i have never walked out on a movie just out of respect for the work the film makers put into it but i mean...ok. the story...big boxer rapist goes to jail. decides to fight the best boxer in said jail. loses. freed from jail but still claims to be UNDISPUTED. as in some japaneese stick houses and an annoying white guy for some special effects and WHAM! shittiest movie ive seen in a long long time.

reply

There is no moral idiot! The movie is about BOXING pure and simple. You must've fell asleep during the opening credits and never woke up.

reply

who cares its good actors ving rhames and wesley snipes, this is no romance movie it is a action-boxing film go rent pretty woman or something like that if you cant stand mindless fighting in films

reply

Well its not the best boxing movie but I really enjoyed it. hte fight seens where done very well and the few funny one liners were good.

reply

hi, just thought i'd throw my two-pence worth in here.
i watched Undisputed last night and it was the first time i watched it.
i've just given it 3 out of 10, so as you can guess i didn't really like it, it wasnt for me and i won't be taking up boxing as a result of this film.
as for good boxing films, i recommend raging bull, i don't think anyone else here has and it is stunning shot, extremely dramatic black and white footage with a story based on the fall of jack la motta.
good luck with your project,

reply

Urgh, everyone that says is crap is a moron, it had a pretty good plot, nice fight screeens and some "OK" acting, its not great but its not crap by any means.

If your looking for the best boxing film for storyline, music, acting, fighting and general "feel good" atmosphere then go with the 1992 Gladiator. Amazing film.

reply

The only reason i liked this movie at all was peter fualk hes cool. But otherwise it was pretty mediorce.

Dont listen to this guy gladiator (1992) is *beep*.

Martin Scorsese's Raging Bull is a great flick.

Another great boxing flick is On the Waterfront with marlon brando i would look into that im sure that inspired a few boxers.

The best boxing fight hands down has got to be first fight in Guy Ritchie's Snatch.

reply

undisputed is good but have you heard of a movie called ROCKY. A.K.A the best sports movie ever made, way better than any boxing movie could ever be.

reply

Rocky was gay. A complete pile of crap. After seeing it at the movies when it first came out the most interesting thing was all the idiots from the audience hitting each other.

Raging Bull was a great film but I wouldn't necessarily say it was great boxing.

As for fights I'd agree with the poster that mentioned Snatch, that fight was the dogs bollocks.

Art sometimes imitates life, so if you are looking for great boxing films, why not look to the man known as the greatest. Ali has at least three films which display his talents and are worthy of consideration for all time great films. "Casius Clay AKA" early on. "The Greatest" where he plays himself. Will Smith in "Ali" and the documentary "When We We Where Kings" theme song by Brian Mcknight. To round out your exploration into boxing films I recommend renting and watching "Only in America; Don King" played by Ving Rhames and "Tyson" as I recall played by the similarly muscled Michael White. Rare films in the blaxploitation genre include Leon Isaac Kennedy as Too Sweet in "Penitentiary" series of films and "Body and Soul" with then wife the beautiful Jayne Kennedy. Cool subject and I should teach the course. Tee, Ed.S./ M.A.

This is my list of boxing movies and movies with boxing in them that I like, in no particular order:

Hurricane
Great White Hype
Don King: Only in America (Darius McCrary sucked as Muhammad Ali, though)
Requiem for a Heavyweight
Snatch
On the Waterfront
Raging Bull

I still need to see Ali and Million Dollar Baby, which I hear are both damn good.

reply

I forgot to add When We Were Kings to that list of movies I like. I haven't and don't plan to see Undisputed.

reply

Kind of a stretch to call On the Waterfront a boxing movie just because there are maybe half a dozen lines of dialogue referencing Terry's past as a fighter.

reply

Not even close to the best boxing movie of all-time
all of the Rocky movies are better, Play It to the Bone, Undefeated

reply

You've got to be kidding? The first Rocky I'll give you. It had heart. And maybe the second. The rest were the fakest boxing scenes ever filmed. No one could get knocked down that many times and the fight not get called off. Please!

reply

no it's not the best boxing film made...

the best are: raging bull, fat city and ali.

reply

Well it's not THE best movie ever made but it's ONE of the best, so it's good to watch.

reply

imo the best boxing movies are

hurricane, cinderella man, million dollor baby.. the rest of the said LOOL u gotta be kidding me the great white hype? LĂ–OOL rocky?hahahhaa cmon..
