I Like New Jack City Better Because it reminded me more of Scarface
shareI liked New Jack too, but I thought it concentrated too much on being the black Scarface of our generation. Paid In Full was more about the struggle of the hustle. The acting was good in both films for the most part, but I just felt that New Jack was trying to copy off of other gangsta films too much.
shareThe reason New Jack and Paid in Full is so similar is because they are both based on the same story. AZ, Rich Porter, Alpo really existed. Scarface is another story all together. Someone said in the first comment I read this movie tried to link it's self with Scarface. That's a lie. This story was just telling how the movie Scarface had an impact on a lot of young people in the Ghetto.
shareI agree bobbysteel29, Paid in Full mentioned Scarface because it was a depiction of a minority who resorted to selling drugs to obtain money power and women things that every guy wants but unfortunately the story always ends with jail or death.I enjoyed Paid in Full more. I used to watch NJC all the time but it seemed like a King of New York rip off actually. NJC was not that realistic people taking over a whole building making it into a drug factory nah that aint happenning it was too extra, just like some parts of Scarface were as well but Scarface was more realistic that NJC .Paid in Full focused more on a time period and I guess I enjoyed it more because it was based in reality and on a true story , and the acting was great.

New Jack City is based on a set of brothers in Arkansas called the Chambers. Thye took controll of an apartment complex to sell drugs out of.They were rich as hell. But they got caught because the FEDS raided a drug house and they had video tapes of them will money,guns and drugs.Paid in Full is based on 3 guys in hHarlem who started blowin up selling drugs. They had their own empire but greed and envy destroyed it.

actually I think New Jack city was based on a few people, most notably...harlem's nicky barnes...from the 70s.....just updated for the 90s....
the producer...RIP..George Jackson..is from same harlem area...as mr. untouchable...nicky barnes.... he was Loon's godfather and was close to the associates of Barnes.Only in 70s it was heroin..not cocaine..
the other touches of the film are based on stuff that other crack era drug lords around the country did....locking down apartments buildings and stuff like that...
