Arguably the *worst* movie in cinema history

Three of Hollywood's softest actors are thrown together into one of the dullest stories in cinema history, playing pseudo-subtle maffiosi. Mob man's family gets killed by his own clan, and the man takes revenge! It's quite fantastic to see Tommy Soft & Serious Hanks playing a tormented maffioso who has to choose between mob loyalty and family (you feel the tension). Add teddy bear Jude Law as a nasty assassin (I couldn't stop laughing), and Paul Newman as the Godfather (can you imagine?), and we have the perfect ingredients for a laugh-kick. Since there is no plot, we must stick to discussing the merits of using perfect-son-in-law actors as gangsters. No workie.

I often wondered whether this movie was intended as a comedy, but the more moralistic the story got, the more I understood that Tom Hanks (the moralist of all moralists) must have had the brilliant idea of using himself to prove that maffiosi do have feelings too.

Besides deserving an Oscar for worst cast in history, I urge technically minded individuals to investigate whether my DVD laserhead simply spinned too sloooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwly, or whether Mendes was actually serious about this wicked tempo. Awful movies often have a reason to be called awful. This one is too empty to have reasons.

shonagon 53-1, r u out of ur wits??
or one of those who think its too cool to write some thing against a great movie? What r u trying to prove ? r u some veteran film critic?? How can u even imagine the movie was supposed to be a comedy?? "I often wondered whether this movie was intended as a comedy, ....."
stop making a fool of urself , if u cant appreciate a good movie than atleast do not try to prove it was a bad one.

Shonagon, it's very hard to resist the urge to call you names, UGLY names I mean, but I'm trying very hard. I just want to ask you: WHY do you feel the need to write those (in my view) ridiculous opinions, WHY?

It's incredible how almost every decent movie has a page like this. A "movie fan" that is shouting out loud it's the worst movie he's ever seen and brings the childish arguments to back it up.
The Hollywood's softest actors? Maybe some of Hollywood's most respected actors. They are actors and they prove it by taking parts that are not what people would expect from them.
No plot? I ask you then, did the Godfather have a plot?
Slow paced? Not enough action for you, huh?
From now on, I swear to God, whenever I look a movie up and I find this kind of posts on its messageboard, I am definatly going to see it cause I have a feeling I'll enjoy it.

Yes agree that this is a very very bad movie but I think that Lost IN Translation edges it out for worst. Just a matter of personal taste I guess as they are both terrible(and pretentious).

No you got it all wrong. Arguably the *worst* movie in cinema history would be A Clockwork Orange.

No, no, The Seven Samurai! No, wait, how about Citizen Kane and North by Northwest? Yeah, definitely the worst. All of them...
Once Upon A time In America, Apocalypse Now, Taxi Driver... crap!!!

You are one poor little man with very little life if any if you think that this is the worst movie in history. Also since when are Tom Hanks and Jude Law soft. Seriously Saving Private Ryan, Enemy at the Gates, Castaway, The Green Mile, Apollo 13, The Aviator, Cold Mountain. You may be the worst critic in history if not the most unfounded. You provide no evidence or reason. Plot? There is a deep running plot, a father trying to escape his past and create a future for his son and there are so many different levels to it. You obviously just wrote this review to say something or grab attention you have no idea what you are talking about. And saying it is one of the worst movies ever is one of the worst over-generalizations you can make. There are thousands if not millions of worse movies, and this movie is in the top echelon. Please stop writing reviews, I think you might be challenging your disadvantaged brain far too much.
