i am so pleased that so many other people love this film. most of my friends have not even heard of it, but it is one of my fav's. i have seen it hundreds of times and know it practically words for word (what can i say, i am sad!) i wasn't particularlly a fan of john cussak before i saw this, but after i saw it i fell so totally in love with him in this film. and the guy who plays dean too, he is such a cutie! did anyone realsie they are best friends in real life!
I am newly addicted to this movie... andthe first think I noticed was its connection to Sex in the City:
Did anyone else notice that John Cabot--the actor who plays Aiden Shaw (Carrie's ex-fiance) in SATC--plays Sarah's fiance, while Bridget Moynahan--the actress who plays Natasha (Mr Big's ex-wife/fiance)--plays Jonathan's fiance?
I know that not everyone is a big SATC fan, but I think this is a really interesting coincidence, seeing as in SATC, like in Serendipity, the main characters leave their fiances for each other... and the same actors play the jilted lovers in both. Poor Bridget Moynahan and John Cabot... :-P
I am a 23 old guy from Germany and I loved this movie from the beginning. The characters, the dialogue, setting, the scenes and the whole arrangement as it is, all together makes a very unique charme. The cast did the rest. I really like Cusack and Beckinsale isn't just beautiful, she was the perfect cast for Sara. I was also very fond of the whole "Sara-is-British-and-has-a-British-accent" thing.
This movie is supposed to be one of the box office films if it is released NOW. now that kate beckinsale is quite a hot actress, plus, i truly like briget moynanhan.. they both are really cute... back in 2001, the popularity of all of them were not this much. i wish it should release it again this time.. the plot and story is really good i can even say it's one of the best romantic films of all times. A nice combination with comedy made audience to never get bored
This is one of those movies that no matter what's going on in you're life right now all you're problems will go away for about an hour and a half. I couldn't sleep, got up at 3AM, put the movie in for the 800th time, it's now 6:15AM and all's well that end's well.
I do! This is me and my fiance Derrick"movie." We just love this movie. This past summer we went on a "Serendipity tour." We went to all the locations of the Serendipity locations. It was soooooo good. Serendipity is definetly "our movie." (not nancy and andre's) i guess you can say, we fell in love all over again.
Huh? I am a fan of Cusack and went to see the film on that alone. I felt that he had made a bad choice of film, and so had I. Although there are no technical faults on screen, the storyline was insulting poor (yes, it is called Serendipity - what should I have expected?) and overly sentimental. I will watch this film again to see what I missed as I am amazed so many of you enjoyed it.
You didn't miss anything. You're the first person in this thread to make an intelligent comment. This movie is horrible. John Cuscak is one of my favourite actors and is in two of my favourite movies (Say Anything and The Sure Thing) and I've seen a lot of movies he's in. This is by far the worst movie he's ever been in. I love romantic movies when they're done well. This is the worst "romantic" movie I've ever seen. Romantic movies work when we get to see people spend time together and fall in love by getting to know each other (you know, LIKE IN REAL LIFE). When that happens, I can care about them and what happens between them.
In this movie, the so called "lovers" are separated from each other for most of the film. They spend a few hours of one night together, and it's not even a very special or exciting few hours. Then, when they have REAL relationships with other people, they want to leave those for each other? It's so stupid. So insulting to my intelligence. I believe in fate, but what happens in this movie isn't examples of how fate brings people together. It's an example of a ridiculously unrealistic story in which people are brought together because the person who writes the story invents ways for them to get together that would NEVER happen. Fate would never be THAT obvious. Kate Beckinsale is hot and John Cusack is a good actor, but that doesn't stop this movie from being awful. I was so pissed after I saw it. I expect Cusack to be smarter in picking his roles. The only thing I liked was the letter his friend writes him.
1.the notebook(saw it 5 times) 2.vanilla sky 3.the butterfly effect 4.serendipity & the girl next door 5.fools rush in(i agree)
i guess that's more like 6,i know a couple of these dont really fall into the romance/comedy category but their all great love stories if ya think about it.
Im a 26 yr old guy, and I'm really not into the romantic type movies, like most guys...But, this movie really got to me...Kate Beckinsale is probably my fav actress, so damn cute, sexy, and also seems genuine, love her...John Cusack plays likeable roles, and Jeremy Piven is also a good actor, in alot of funny movies...This movie had the right mix of comedy and all the other intangibles...I first saw it 2 yrs ago with my longtime GF, I actually had to hold back tears in the end, I could never let her see a movie get to me like that...Anyway, I am no longer with her and I just saw the movie again the other day, of course it made me think of her which sucked, but that's when you know a movie is good, when it makes you think about your own life...The story is off-the-wall unrealistic but that's OK, it's a feel-good type movie that gets you to laugh and teary-eyed at the same time...Love you Kate Beckinsale, too damn cute.
Watched this last night for the 4th time as it was on TV and enjoyed it as much as the first and my BF loved it too. The choice of actors is excellent and its a heart warming story, real escapism... deserves more than the 2 out of 5 that the Radio Times gave it!!
