BOTH.

Both dubbing was done perfectly and fitted the characters, tone and pace of the series. Some subtitles are much better subbed by certain groups because they did a pretty decent translation of Japanese to English.

This is one of the few series which I find I can switch between Languages and not feel like one is superior to the other. Seriously, get the dual audio guys.

Yeah, that's how I am with the movie. I actually enjoy that dub, but sometimes I watch it and want to go back to the voices I'm familiar with and will watch it subbed.

For me too, I'm completely in love with the Japanese cast, particularly Kouichi Yamadera who plays Spike (as well as Togusa and Laughing Man on Ghost in the Shell). I LOVE HIS VOICE!! lol

Dub or sub, it's kind of a dumb argument (that I get into regularly, being a sub watcher). It's all personal taste. If you have little tolerance for subtitles and/or you are very used to enjoying the dubbed voice, then that's really cool. I speak some Japanese so I understand some of it to begin with, I'm not bothered by subtitles and I love the Japanese voice actors, so...

I have to agree with the GITS recommendation.. That dub is pretty top notch especially for SAC.. Mary Elizabeth McGlynn was made for the Major!

Yes!

GiTS had a very strong cast to begin with, and they were perfectly cast for the parts with their voices, especially Mary McGlynn. All of their voices were pretty reminiscent of the Japanese cast. It's almost as if they watched the original and cast the people to replicate things. That was the impression I got at least. :)

While I am a stickler for seeing a show in its original language, C.B. is better, for Americans anyway, in the dubbed English. In fact, I have never seen it with any other option. It is a faced pace series, and the Whatever group put together the English dubb was just ACES!

Without a question the english dub is superior. But don't take my word for it. Simply watch it with the English dub on but the English sub titles for the Japanese audio on and you will see what I am talking about. The dialogue and jokes just flow so much better, much better writing, plus the actors do a superb job.

I have no idea what this circlejerk is that the English dub is better. That's not true at all. The original Japanese voice cast is excellent. Sure, the dub is good, but why settle for it if you can have the original audio, the voices that were intended? They were cast for the roles by the creators for Pete's sake.

Always watch the original audio, whether or not it's a foreign film or an anime.

^Because the creator himself said the dub was better. With him especially praising Steven Blum as Spike Spiegel.

Unless the show is literally created with specific voice actors in mind for every role there's no version that has "the voices that were intended". Japanese voice actors can be bad, miss the mark, etc. just like English ones can. Not saying that was the case here but the "circlejerk" is probably due to the creator assuring the dubs quality.

This is EXACTLY what I'm talking about when I said circlejerk. The creator never said that, and it's considered untrue. There is no source of any kind of him saying that. That is made up. I was reading a forum a while back where people were trying to prove that he did indeed say that, but they couldn't. Because he never did say that. So far as I know, it's the fandom's equivalent to an old wive's tale.

Sure, the dub is great, but I don't understand why you would watch it instead of the original voices unless you're ten years old. Some say that Bebop is a show that is artistically meant to be expressed in English, but that doesn't make any sense either. Should Kill Bill be watched with a Japanese dub then?

Then there's nothing to discuss really. Personally I don't understand how someone could have such a simple viewpoint one way or the other.

Even if someone enjoys the dub more than the sub, they should just watch the sub anyway because those are the original voices? Nevermind that it goes against the whole point of why I'm watching, to be entertained? I should just be a purist for the sake of not being 10 years old?

Very narrow-minded perspective.

I hear some creators in Anime are involved with dub casting.

Simple if the dub cast does a great job I wanna hear them as the characters. I thought the dub cast was great here.

Romeo X Juliet,Baccano,Michiko,Black Lagoon and Hatchin and Hevans Lost Property sounded better in English Imo

Why bring up foreign films when it comes to dubs in Anime?

Generally I think both The Japanse and English Voice Actors deserve credit

if you're going to introduce this show to people who have never watched anime before or do not care for the genre then the dubbed version is the only way to go. it just works.

the composer of the series, Yoko Kanno, has stated that she thinks the english voice actor of Spike makes the character sound much more attractive and provocative than the original japanese VA

This one I've heard of, but I thought her comment was more to the effect of, Yamadera made him 'cool' and Blum made him 'sexy', i.e., she was being pretty diplomatic.
