Uuuuugh this movie is awful. I've seen ALOT of bad movies, but this one takes the cake for worst. At least most of those other bad movies didnt try as hard as this one.
first off, the acting, uuugh. completely unbelievable and unrealistic, and incredibly cheesey. who would have thought that carl brashear was the bravest greatest man in the world. ever second cuba gooding jr was on screen it made me physically angry, i started hitting my asian friend really hard.
the directing, sweet jesus did this guy try too hard. he made every scene seem like some epic, with the standard emotional music playing and the tears and bla bla bla. This movie shows everything that is wrong with movies nowadays. It is an awful movie in disguise of a moving story, and so many people have fallen for it. At least movies like the upcoming Bad Boys 2 understand how awful they are and admit it. siiigh well i am going to do some major damage to myself to take the pain away that watching this movie has caused me. goodbye

maybe you should watch more movies then, like acary movie 3, that sucked really bad, but you claim this is the worst, well what ever.

I really enjoyed this movie. Cuba was awesome and so was DeNiro. Can't wait to see it again.

This is such a poorly acted movie, full of the most stereotypical plot elements around. Not only is Cuba's character alienated because he's black, but he also befriends the studdering idiot, changes the opinions of all the racists, and earns the respect of the Angry-at-the-World Southern Master Chief.
Sorry, but Cuba Gooding Jr is not a good actor.

Besides, watching a movie about slow-moving, heavy, deep-sea divers is not very exciting.

Powers Boothe was awesome in Deedwood, is his character dead? hmmm..

Just because I couldn't make a better movie doesn't matter. Movies are meant to be "good" aren't they? DO people make movies and go, "oh, I hope this is horrible and no one goes to see it?" Given, I don't agree this is the stupidest movie ever ("Freddy Got Fingered" and not good stupid BAD) but I do agree it tried to hard, in the scenes where I knew I should care, like Cuba Gooding was saving that guy, or when the white guy stayed in the dorm even after evyone left, I didn't. I think the family failed to establish the connections between characters. Oh, and Cuba's wife, where did she come from... I mean Cuba was like, "I love you! Marry me!" and I was wondering when did all this happen. She helped him with his school work. It didn't really seem that they had tha moment when the viewer realizes he/she wants them together. It was very stereotypica, even if that is really how it happened, the lack of quality in the movie made that even more visible.

I wanted to like the movie, but I just couldn't. Even read up on Carl Bershear, or however you spell it.
But it certainly wasn't the worst movie ever.

Man was this movie annoying, so damn cheesy and full of stereotypes... I wouldn't say it's the WORST movie I've ever seen, but it's close. It made me damn proud to be a Canadian! (Even though our movies are on par with your average university film project.)

I had to watch this in school, in French no less (didn't understand half of it, but I suppose that's a good thing, eh?).

It's like Remember the Titans all over again. Why do people think that all a movie needs to be great is a story about black people over-coming racism?! Remember the Titans COULD have been a good movie, had the writers not gotten extremely lazy with the character development for the racists. When you tackle an issue as serious as racism, I would think you need to portray every side of the issue accurately, and not ridiculously simplified, or else it's an insult to the victims! Honestly!

Well, anyways, I guess this movie did have some good stuff in it, but I was way too put off by the overly dramatic music and close-ups. Some of the crazy zoom-ins they did on Robert De Niro were damn near comedic!

In the end my mate and me were taking bets on what would happen next. I won with my prediction for the final scene: Cuba struggles to the seemingly impossible 12th step, tears streaming down his trembling face, as upliftingly triumphant music swells to a nauseating crescendo and the attendees in the courtroom stand up and perform the reliably dreadful 'American Movie Life Affirming Final Scene Hand Clap' bullsh*t.

And notice how his wife kept turning up right near the end of each challenging scene to look on disapprovingly or maybe give an indignant look of pride.

Oh, and then more of that awful music telling us how to feel. I hate it when movies do that.

It isn't the worst movie ever. But I thought it was pretty poor.

YOU GUYS WHO SAID THE MOVIES WAS RUBBISH DONT KNOW WAT DAY IT IS............THIS WAS AN EXCELLLENT FILM.....OKAY......I'LL GIV IT...A LIL CHEESY AT TIMES...(10 HOURS TAKEN TO FIX DAT THING....) BUT TO BE HONEST THAT SCENE WAS PROBABLY THE ONLY CHEESIEST SCENE BUT ITS ALSO VERY EMOTIONAL HOW EVERYONE IS COMPLETING THE TASK ON GOOD TIME AND HEEZ THERE LOOKING FOR HIS TOOLS WHICH HAV DROPPED OUT.........OVERALL THE FILM WAS VERY EMOTIONAL AND JUS WELL ACTED....................CGJ ROCKS......GREAT ACTOR................

Although the original post said this film was the owrst ever made (obviously worng) it still could not be described as excellent. Although the diving aspect could not be avoided as it is a true story it was not conveyed very well and the outcome of each scene was predictable. I also couldnt undersand a lot of what De Niro's character was actually saying (probably because im english), and he was basically wasted playing hte cliched tough, old-fashioned mentor. Aside from this I basically fell the plot merited a TV movie at most and not the time and labour of our finest actors.

P.S. Some posts have previously ranted on how the film was over-patriotic, i did not feel this was a theme in the movie at all, given the time of hte movie was cold-war this whole patriotic aspect was well reigned in, and the film was left simply to themes of race, and struggle.

YEAH!! Whats wrong with a story about a BLACK MAN doing good?? Not enough stupid movies about black men doing drugs, pimpin, stealing, killing out there. Carl did what everyone else out there told him he couldn't. He beat the odds and became the first. And with one leg jerkoffs!!! What have you done??? Some of us like to see movies like... Color purple, Hurricane, Malcolm X, Hotel Rwanda,Radio, Lean on Me, Roots, Queen movies that are inspiring. Were not all Driving Miss Daisey!! Next time racist, try Mississippi burning Or American History X you'll learn a thing or to. And what's with the Hitting my Asian friend about? Try the movie Crash Cracker!!

I agree with all the above, it,s AWFUL!.

The acting is very, very bad, {not as bad as the acting in "SAW" {lol}

nothing could be!, but bad never the less.

Emotional and embarrasing, sorry to the fans, this is "Rubbish".

The real guys story could have been told, we would still get it,

we are not stupid!, just tell it like it is or all this is fiction!.

Very, Very Bad, only watch to see how bad.R.

This is a fantastic movie. No where NEAR the worst. Go to hulu.com and search "Troll 2" then come back with the worst-movie-ever crap.

I found God in myself. And I loved her. I loved her fiercely.
