if anyone has anymore suggestions along the lines of awesome road flicks other than these please let me know :)
Great list.
You should check out "Duel" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067023/reference) by Spielberg. It doesn't age terribly well, but it's an excellent psychological journey. You can definitely see where films like "Falling Down" (opening traffic jam scene) got some of their imagery and mood from it.

I finally remembered the other movie I wanted to mention: "Hick" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1205558/reference). Very good, chilling runaway film. You never know what's coming next, appropriately.

Although it's only been mentioned once, I highly recommend "Roadside Prophets" (1992). Truly a delight.
"In a time of universal deceit,
telling the truth is a revolutionary act."
George Orwell
These ones are a bit more serious but they are still awesome road movies
The Yellow Handkerchief
Y Tu Mama Tambien
You should watch MOTORAMA!!! Crazy *beep* =D Not as good as this movie, but interesting, insubstantial, weird, and also a road trip!! =)

Everything Is Illuminated (2005)

I'm working on compiling a list of road movies of all kinds - thriller, adventure, discovery/enlightenment, sci-fi. They all have one thing in common: THE OPEN ROAD. I think fans of Interstate 60 will enjoy this list - let me know what you guys think, and if you have any suggestions for me to add. I have my favorite 54 road flicks right now:
