There's a Canadian film called "One Week" that is not a bad road trip film.
Young man discovers he has cancer, takes to Canada's #1 on a journey of self discovery.
actually, Ill just put all my favorite road movies, because these kind of movies are my favorite kind and are very hard to find the best ones :) :) :) this list will please any road movie fan gauranteed: especially for the blacker comedic/scifi type of road movie:

and I really want to see the Zeros (2001) and the Galaxies Are Colliding (1992)by John Ryman. The Zeros synopsis looks just like wristcutters and big empty.. but very very hard to find!

Great list.
You should check out "Duel" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067023/reference) by Spielberg. It doesn't age terribly well, but it's an excellent psychological journey. You can definitely see where films like "Falling Down" (opening traffic jam scene) got some of their imagery and mood from it.

I finally remembered the other movie I wanted to mention: "Hick" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1205558/reference). Very good, chilling runaway film. You never know what's coming next, appropriately.

Although it's only been mentioned once, I highly recommend "Roadside Prophets" (1992). Truly a delight.

You should watch MOTORAMA!!! Crazy *beep* =D Not as good as this movie, but interesting, insubstantial, weird, and also a road trip!! =)
