Isn't it weird how we don't see these types of movies anymore?

This movie was quite bold for a teen comedy and approached porn in some scenes. Teen comedies in modern times are somehow very ''cleaned up'' and there is no raunchy-ness like the American pie films and some of the other movies back in the early 2000's (''Girl next door'' etc.).

There are also no explicit sex scenes in movies where the characters are teens in recent times. Characters may allude to ''something'' but it's not portrayed on screen and if it is it's just kissing.

It's disturbing how we've actually become more conservative as a society since 1999.

Make love, not war. But keep it consensual. BTW it's only natural for sexuality to dry up now we're in the end times.

Rather than conservatism, I find that it's more a combination of TV getting sexier so as to not have as much impact in film and people not actually finding many of these comedies all that funny.

Nah. I think after the bush era there was a genuine culture change in society in regards to this sort of thing. USA moved further to the right and the Trump presidency took it even further so.

I'm not an American, so I don't have much of an opinion in regard to this, but I stand by what I said. TV got sexier so sex lost its shock value in comedy and these were never that funny to begin with.

Not at all weird, Holly. In the 21 YEARS since this thing, we have so much clandestine access to internet smut content that Playboy has gone out of business. It is a historic fact that, the more clandestine the access to erotica becomes, the more its audience expands. Who the fuck needs R teen sex coms when we have PornHub and webcam girls?

Did you look outside recently, read the news, turn on the TV or visit a university!?
If anything, society is being transformed into a leftist dystopia.

I can confirm. It not uncommon to see young women braless wearing see through shirts. This is not a complaint - I approve of this behavior. Although the tattoos are unsightly.

Movies like AP were of their time. Same as the silly frat house/mild sex comedies of the 80s like Screwballs, Porkys etc.

And fundamentally, people grow up and move on. You find these kinds of movies a turn on when you are young, but if you still yearn for them later in life...then that's a little weird.

I watched the AP “Girls Rule” off of Netflix recently and it was fucking awful. Not only that it was hypocritical, racist, and sexist. The moral of that story was simple in that women and girls have all the power and control over being sexual people and guys are simply along for the ride if we are lucky. You make American Pie in 2021 and you would be called sexist, misogynistic, and encouraging toxic masculinity. I think sex comedies should exist in 2021. It's normal for a healthy society and shows its okay to pursue women.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin in 2005 and Superbad in 2007 are often credited with killing the teen Sex Comedy. On one hand, the success of The 40-Year-Old Virgin proved that sex comedies aimed squarely at grown adults (with teenagers playing only supporting roles) could be just as successful as teen-oriented films like American Pie. On the other, Superbad mocked and deconstructed the genre so viciously that viewers could no longer take it seriously, cementing the public view of teen sex comedies as being weird, pathetic, lowbrow schlock that toed the line between sexy and sexist. The rise of internet porn, allowing such films' target audience to easily access far more explicit material than what could be shown in an R-rated film, merely read the genre's obituary.
