Not to be cruel

But people who commit suicide for no good reason other than they're depressed get no sympathy from me.

I suggest you actually look into depression before making statements like that. Our culture has a pretty warped view of what depression actually is, it isn't just being sad it is a sickness much like Cancer or the flue even. Statements like that keep people who need help from going out and getting it because they fear being stigmatized. Just because you can't see the symptoms of depression don't mean they aren't there.

Its something you'll get used to a mental mind *beep* can be nice!

I agree with Roverguy. In fact, I think that people should have the means to kill themselves as quickly and painlessly as possible if that's what they want to do. I reject the idea that all suicides are the result of mental illness. It's your body, your life, your choice.

reply

Personally, I think suicide should be legal. If a person is of a mind that his/her life no longer matters, there is no point in living, or for whatever reason and wants to end it, why not let them? Personal choice, they are not harming any one else. Thier family and friends will be sad and upset, but we all die eventually. It is just dying on your terms.

Same with euthanasia for terminal illnesses.

And if a person tries to commit suicide and does not (chickens out, etc.) then they really did not want to in the first place. Then give them the help they cried out for.

Why should it be legal? For the most part, the people who REALLY want to kill themselves do it regardless. I've never heard anyone say 'I want to kill myself, but dammit, it's illegal.'

reply

I think I understand what he is saying here... it's not that it is NOT LEGAL but if we know someone is going to kill themselves and WE ALLOW IT TO HAPPEN ... WE ARE HELD RESPONSIBLE.

I think he means IT SHOULD NOT BE ILLEGAL FOR US TO ALLOW SOMEONE TO COMMIT SUICIDE.

and I agree with him. We are allowed to put animals out of their misery, why not adults? no matter if the misery is mental, psychological or physical, people are still miserable.

I think disallowing someone to kill themselves should be illegal.

It's not a cruel comment, but a very ignorant one.

Only depressed?! Did you even watch the film? These girls had no life while alive either! Their parents were insane.
To be fair, I will say I don't understand why these girls just didn't wait until they were 18, and then they'd leave for college wouldn't they?

Even one of the girls was talking about getting into an Ivy League college.
Do you think maybe they knew their parents had decided not to let them go, after that whole ludicrous overreaction to Homecoming?

So what is exactly a good reason to commit suicide? ..by the way, almost everyone who committed suicide are likely to be depress.

Ummm...everyone who commits suicide has to be "depressed" to some extent. So, technically...EVERYONE who commits suicide does not deserve your sympathy?

But the girls were depressed, so your post makes no sense. I find it funny when people who know nothing about suicide or how others deal with it think they can make their opinions off of it. And whoever said suicide should be legal is a very silly person. Why would that be legal? Like another person said, suicidal people kill themselves regardless. Why encourage that type of behavior?
