Fight Club vs Memento
Which do you think is better?
shareMemento, then Snatch, then Fight Club.
shareMemento and it’s not even close. Fight Club stars my two least favorite actors of all time and it’s not nearly as smart as your typical stoned college student seems to think it is.
sharewhy do you think it's not smart? could you elaborate please.
shareI just personally didn't think it did anything that deep or anything we hadn't already seen before. And that twist was so obvious from the very beginning.
shareYou're right about the twist and that the topic of consumerism is already overused, even though I still think it's interesting
But where I think it's clever is with the loneliness and lack of meaning in modern society it's really good at showing you how mundane and boring is the life of a generic person in the west 21st century where having a modern life could drive you crazy (like in taxi driver, american psycho etc)
Fight Club. I didn't care for Memento. I thought it was just alright.
shareMemento isn't really that interesting if you watch it in chronological order. The gimmick obfuscates the simplicity and stupidity of both the protagonist and the story quite a lot.
Having said that, wouldn't it be interesting if Leonard and Tyler had a fight? They're both in great physical shape, and seemingly know how to fight. I don't even care which would win, because the most amusing thing would be - NEITHER would remember it!
I mean, Narrator would be like 'I never fought anyone yesterday' (because it was Tyler, Narrator would have no memory of it) and Leonard would have NO clue what's even going on, as he can't remember anything anyway.
So they could have the MOST EPIC FIGHT EVER, come out heavily bruised, and the next morning treat each other like perfect strangers, while checking their bruises on the same mirror in some men's room or whatnot. It would be hilarious.
You have quite the imagination there, avortac4.
I honestly don't remember that much about Memento, I saw it about 15 years ago, I just remember being not so impressed by it. But I thought it was a clever idea the way it was shot but to me, it wasn't enough to make it interesting. Although, I'm probably bias because I just never cared for Guy Pearce that much. His acting style has always kind of annoyed me. :)
And I wouldn't say Fight Club was perfect either but I did like it. I just think they could have done without the terrible living conditions of the lead characters. lol... who would live in a place like that?
But yeah, a fight between the the two of them (Leo and Ty) would make for an interesting plot. Of course, it's not something we'll ever see but I do think in the future, we need to see more movie spin-offs and prequels, similar to what they're doing with the Star Wars franchise.
For example, I think they could make a really good film based on the Vietnam days of Rambo. They could include the entire team of the green berets he served with. Which was mentioned in the original Rambo film, First Blood. There's a lot script-writers could do with certain films.
Fight club, hands down
shareBoth great movies, but I like Fight Club more. Fincher's number one movie.
shareI love both films. Both great but Fight Club is more rewatchable, for me at least
shareBoth are excellent films but Fight Club edges out due to its repeat viewing appeal, imo.
shareMemento, as the protagonist is easier to relate to.
