Does Snuff Exist?

That's the age old question. People want to know if REAL snuff films actually do exist. Well, it depends on how you look at it.

There have been a few convicted killers who did film the torture, rape and murder of their victims. That would be a REAL snuff film. So, YES, they have been made.

Now, I assume (and I hope) those tapes were destroyed by the police after they were done being used as evidence. So, if there was only a single copy made and that copy was destroyed then NO, it does not exist. But, once again, it was made.

In all the true crime stories that I've read on this subject, there's one question that never seemed to pop up in the articles, "Were additional copies made?" It's not hard to imagine that one or two of these films were given to other people before the killers got caught and, if they're in circulation (so to speak) other people can probably get them. But, it's probably a very small group of people and you know they're not gonna run around and advertise the fact that they have something like this in their collection. So, if they do get brave enough to pass it on to someone else, more than likely, they're gonna charge and arm and a leg (no pun intended) for it.

It's an interesting question. You're right when it comes to convicted serial criminals, with the M Lady tapes by Leonard Lake and Charles Ng and "3 Guys 1 Hammer" by the Dnepropetrov Maniacs now living in infamy, and Mark L. Rosen mentions in Snuff: A Documentary About Killing on Camera that people tried to sell him what he described as a snuff film.

The idea of it existing isn't alien to me nor does it frighten me. I believe it was John Alan Schwartz/Conan Le Cilaire (the director of the Faces of Death movies) said it best "if people are willing to pay for it, snuff will exist" (not quoting verbatim). The documentaries "Does Snuff Exist?" (The Dark Side of Porn) and Snuff: A Documentary About Killing on Camera go into some more detail about things. While the latter isn't very good, it mentions a story in Russia about a child pornography ring and a wire tap call. The former mentions the Moors Murders and how they audio taped their killings.

Do I think it exists? It's plausible. However, by the FBI definition, we just haven't found it yet.

Luka Magnotta made one and uploaded it to a shock website.
he didn't make it for profit though. well as far as anyone knows....

If anyone on the side of the good guys knows it is probably author and child protection lawyer, Andrew Vachss.

I say this because in the very early days of the internet he predicted this would be the new way in which pedos shared and sold material. At the time he was called a sick fantasist and an alarmist by many but he has ultimately been proven right.

I don’t know if anyone has ever asked him if he thinks real snuff movies exist but his opinion would carry some weight.

It does exist, but in very limited categories:

1.- Filmed for personal pleasure.
- All the serial killer's home movies count here.

2.- Surveillance video that caught a violent death on film.
- Also all over.

3.- Filmed to be SOLD, a.k.a. for profit (not a pervert home movie)
- On request, for a particular person: a.k.a. what we saw in the film. This can be real, but too risky in first world countries. Most of it will likely be fake. This is the most likely scenario in first world countries where criminal gangs don't have too much impunity nor clout and thus risk too much doing real snuff. Why make it for real when you can fake it and get good results (cannibal holocaust). Like fake child porn, since people didn't really get harmed/abused, it's kosher.
- For mass distribution: like the Russian guy they keep referring to here in the threads. You can only really get away with this in craphole countries like Russia where criminal organizations rule. Why do you think most child porn comes from places like that?

So yeah it does exist, but mostly in crappy countries. It's just too risky and fake snuff can look just as real.

Yeah but then you need to define what you mean by snuff.

It's widely accepted that some serial killers record their exploits and we all know these Jihadist types are filming beheadings and other executions but that's not the same as a group making these movies to order for commercial gain. Not saying it doesn't happen but if it does then it must be so far underground you'd never know.

I'd love to see it as a task on The Apprentice.

"This week's task is shoot and market a snuff movie. Whoever makes the most money without getting caught wins, and on the losing team, you are probably all going to jail."

Of course snuff films exist, snuff films have been made in every country especially in less developed countries such as Russia Ukraine Brazil Mexico Colombia Venezuela Thailand and The Philippines, lots of snuff films have come from those countries.

That's because normal people don't want to dig deep into a subject matter like that.

I've seen some HORRIBLE movies...not just drug cartel executions, but sexual abuse and stuff, and it's real. FX and acting like that just doesn't get on to the movie screen unless it's real. It's sick.

It's out there...it's just a matter of the proper authorities caring enough to investigate.

There are evil people in this world - and I have no doubt that they want to share their sickness, in the same way video is spread of all kinds of other things. They can't help themselves.

Even though they say it doesn't exist, still a disturbing read:

In the documentary SNUFF it was argued that Michael Moore's BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE is the closest thing to a snuff film because by definition snuff films are made with the intention of SELLING, and that's technically the only known case where a video of actual killings (Columbine) has been sold for money. Although FACES OF DEATH would count as well, I guess.
