Worst movie ever.

I don't know if it is because of the "(TV)", but this movie was the most irritating, stupid, bad movie I have ever seen.
You who like it, what do you compare with? "Glamour"? If so, it's understandable, they have the same quality.

Everything is bad, actors and their lines, "special effects", characters, plot. Everything.

Damn, this movie makes me ill.

Anyway, I understand some people like this movie... so maybe you can tell me why? What is good about this piece of ****

Ummm....please remember that this was a made for TV movie from 1998....while LOTR was one of the biggest, best funded movies from 2002 or something??? Your dumb.

Of course Merlin cant be compared to LOTR. it didnt have the budget, or the technology that we have now adays, whcich is 7 years later. It was an amazing movie, not meaning to stay to the clasic or accurate aurtur story (although it did sometimes)

"Merlin" can be compared to LOTR, and cosidering that this is a TV production, Merlin is excellent. I am a huge fan of LOTR and still don't see a reason for a silly competition between those two movies... In fact Merlin is very similar to LOTR, some shots could have been used in PJ's movie and no one would notice. I would say Merlin is the second best movie about Arthurian legends after Boorman's Excalibur. Great performances, solid direction, memorable music, working CG and tricks, interesting approach to the story. 8/10. I repeat, for a TV production this show is outstanding.

what the HELL?! how is this movie any less then a work of art?! what kind of movies do you watch? they must be unhumanly good, or you have no taste and watch "movies" like American Sphyco or how ever you spell it

reply

How can this possibly be the worst movie ever? I have yet to see it, but have heard nothing but good things from those that have. And for God's sake it was nominated for 15 Emmy's and won 4 of them.

reply

Personally, I think Merlin's brilliant, but each to their own. Although I suggest you change the title of this post to "My Least Favourite Film", because a)You cannot possibly have watched every film ever made, and b) This is your personal opinion, not solid fact. I don't like Lord of the Rings, but I don't act like that makes it a bad film. Its a question of personal taste.

THIS FILM IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!

The casting and acting is great and the whole story and how its told is amazing (and it is actually really close to real Arturian Legend). Yes, the special effects wern't that great, but so what? everything else was!

This is one of my faovourite films ever (admittedly I do like anything with swords). Sure, it's not really a match to LOTR, but think of the difference in budget, plus nothing really comes close t LOTR.

This is one of my favorite pieces of cinema ever. The special effects were amazing, in my opinion, simply because the team working on this movie knew they were restricted (effects wise) and were able to apply what they had perfectly to the movie. If they remade this now with all the technology of today and a huge budgets, I hope they do it exactly the same. The tone of this movie, it's imagery (most important of which was the effects) and cinematogrophy were what endeared this one to me in the first place.

Come now, it's silly to compare it with any other. I personally adore this movie. ..I happen to be watching it right now. But that aside. I'm not sure why deciding whether or not it's "good" in your opinion should be in comparing it with another film. The acting isn't bad. The plot is clear and coherent. Perhaps the special effects aren't that advanced, but that shouldn't have much to do with whether or not it's "good." What exactly is bad about the characters' lines, again? The movie making you 'ill' is fine, I understand differences of opinion, but I certainly don't think that it is the worst.

The ending of the movie is particularly wonderful, when he casts one last spell and then ends magic forever, its epic and brilliant.

reply

They blew the entire budget on that one effect. That's why the rest of the movie sucked so badly.

I totally agree with you. I absolutley hated this sorry excuse for a movie. The director has this bizarre fetish with making everything magical either poorly animated, or poorly made-up and filmed at 200% speed, which just looks like absolute crap, especially when overlayed with scenes moving at normal speed. Gah! It was a serious effort not to kill myself while I watched this. The Lady of the Lake made me sick, the sorry imitation armor made me sick, the crappy rendition of Excalibur that looked like a child's tin-foil toy made me sick, and the special effects which were a severe discredit to Henson's Creature Shop made me really sick. I am going to go practice my calm breathing now...

I really not understand your point of view. I saw this film when I was 10 years old... I was a child, but today I still thinking that is a great prodution with good interpretations. A filme with magic, with feelings...
