Could a teacher REALLY get fired...


...for sabotaging a high school student council presidential election? Seems rather, oh I dunno...petty and trivial. A suspension at worst, perhaps, I'd imagine. I know he was technically not fired but asked to resign, but let's face it -- it's basically the same thing (it's just a more polite version of being fired).

When the movie was made probably not but today it might.

His biggest defense would be plausible deniability. Nobody saw him do it, as much as he looked guilty, but anyone could have put those votes in the trash. They probably couldn't actually fire him over it if he denied it, but I think he understood it would be almost impossible for him to move past this in the community, fired or not.
