Julia Roberts = Unimpressed??

Julia Roberts is certainly an attractive woman/actress. But I couldn't help but feel the level and opinion/expectation of her appearance was somewhat overblown for this film. She's not a heartstopping, heartthrobbing, diehard, absolutely gorgeous beauty. Thereby making all the constant references and scene angles/implications actually just not believable/accurate/fitting.
I'm not saying she's unattractive. But couldn't help but feel someone more like an Angelia Jolie, Megan Fox, or a Scarlett Johansson would've been better/more believeable.

Anna Scott needed to have an aura of vulnerability and approachability that the actors you just named all lack. Angelia Jolie, Megan Fox, and even Scarlett Johansson have a glamour about them that Robert lacks.

Anna Scott could've been played by Sandra Bullock perhaps, but Roberts herself was still a big enough star at the time that her casting added a bit of meta-reality to the role. We get to imagine that she's literally playing herself and sharing her real life vulnerabilities.

I agree with this.

Could Pamela Anderson have worked ?

Oh, gad!

It is said the movie was based on Uma Thurman and a friend of Richard Curtiss.

Agreed. "Most beautiful woman in the world"?? You need to get out of the house more, bruh!

Julia Roberts was great for this role, her smile during the Elvis Costello song was magic, even if the scene was a bit long. But horseface Scarlett Johansson? Don't even think she holds a candle to Julia.
