How the hell does this have such a high rating?
7.7?! You've gotta be kidding me
shareBecause the last 2 minutes give the people the "feeling" that it's a Star Wars movie so they forget the garbage that happened for 2 hours before that.
Those last 2 minutes redeemed the whole prequel trilogy for a lot of people.
What's best in life ?
I rated this POS 1/10
You and me both.
shareAnd me. 1/10.
It is total crap for the first 2/3rds.
Trolls spotted.
If you rate it 1/10 because you believe it's too high for whatever crazy reasons you didn't like this movie, well everyone did it at least once on IMDB for movies they believed were too highly rated. Even though I consider the movie deserve at least 7.75/10 rating. Clearly the best of the trilogy of prequel movies.
But, if it's in absolute that you consider it to be 1/10, then you are without a doubt trolls or, you hate one or several actors in said movie to slash it & underrate it so extremely.
If it helps you sleep, then "without a doubt" either I'm a troll or I hate an actor in the movie.
That's a false dilemma, for you.
Unfortunately, there are many other possibilities.
I happen to love Natalie Portman and Samuel L. Jackson and Ewan Macgregor.
And I've never seen any of the other actors before.
You've just admitted in your comment that you would rate it 7.75
simply because it's the best of the trilogy.
I have not seen the "trilogy of prequel movies,"
so I'm judging this movie on its merits; not giving it EXTRA CREDIT
as I would for a competitor in the SPECIAL OLYMPICS.
I rated it a 1/10 based on the cringeworthy dialogue, acting, pacing, and its transparent dependence on noisy CGI effects at the cost of good story-telling. In short, I'm judging it on important factors that make a movie good.
Oh, so i'm supposed to rate it against other prequel movies? LOL. Thats not how it works. On its own its a bad movie. I gave it 4/10. It was so bad that George Lucas gave up and sold Star Wars to Disney.
Even with Jar Jar Episode 1 was by far the best. (of the prequels) And if someone came along and edited Jar Jar out of the movie as much as possible it would actually be quite good. (please!)
Episode 3 was just bad. It was bad all the way through. There was nothing redeeming about it.
The acting was bad, the special effects were bad, the script was bad and the scenes weren't believable. I mean they're fighting with light sabres right above an active volcano. I mean like 10 feet! They would be dead in seconds. Heat goes up!
Best George Lucas movies in order:
1. Star Wars
2. Empire Strikes Back!
3. Raiders of the Lost Ark
4. THX-1138
5. American Graffiti
6. Return of the Jedi
7. Star Wars: Episode 1
8. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Aaargh ! I almost swallowed up my doobie !
Raiders of the lost ark and Temple of doom by Lucas ???
They were shot by Spielberg !
The only credit one could give to Lucas is for inventing the SW universe (which is huge, but then he had clear influences. Ever seen the amazing documentary about "Jodorowsky's Dune"?)
But soon after he started loathing it and he attempted to turn it into a giant instrument of mass consumption.
And he succeeded.
Btw Empire Strikes Back wasn't directed by Lucas either.
Uhh he also invented the Indiana Jones universe. He came up with the stories. Spielberg just helped realize Lucas's vision.
shareWhich part of the last two minutes? The scene where the camera pans back with Vader having his arms stretched out yelling "NOOOOOOO!!!!", or the one where Obi-Wan pretends to hold a real baby that is actually a (poorly done) CGI rendition of a baby?
There are many others, but I agree with the OP. Why this or any other prequel film having a rating higher than 6.0 is beyond me...
[deleted]
I think it was the scene where Mother-of-the-Year Padme couldn't muster up the "will to live" to take care of her newborn twins.
The entire trilogy was bad, but this movie was the worst. I gave it a 3.
Because it's an excellent film.
shareThats funny, I was just thinking how could VII be rated higher than Revenge of The Sith? Ep III begins with an epic, gorgeous and exhilarating space battle, looks great and is fun...and at least it gives us beautiful new vistas and cool new ships to enjoy instead of unimaginative retreads like The Force Awakens.
shareTotally agree with your analysis. For as much crap as the prequels get, at least they tried to expand and flesh out the universe of Star Wars and introduce new things. The latest Star Wars film was a nostalgia orgy. Same exact plot as A New Hope. Same actors that were there just for the sake of being there. Same everything. Still enjoyable to watch, but JJ Abrams was very cowardly with the film. He was too scared to go into any new direction, probably because he didn't want to anger any "hard core" fans who are impossible to please anyway.
shareI thought as much. I think as a movie on its own it'd be a four, and as a Star Wars movie it'd get a 3. Only because I must save the 2 for Attack of the Clones, and that only because the 1 is for Dragonball Evolution.
I understand young people being impressed with the first five minutes. And ignoring the bad dialogue (Portman and Christensen aren't great actors, but not even Sean Connery and Meryl Streep would make this dialogue believable), the hurried, stupid plot.
What I will never be able to understand, for the life of me, is how self-proclaimed fans of The Empire Strikes Back can give this a 7, an 8 or even a ten! I just don't get it.
In The Empire Strikes Back, the love story happened in the midst of the action, flowed naturally. You could believe it. The chemistry was incredible. The action flowed, the characters developed, and the ending was sad, but hopeful.
Again... I sort of understand the younglings who saw the prequels first. The ones who think the prequels are more shiny, more spectacular. Padme and Anakin are hotter. OK, it's superficial, but I understand.
Now... Grown men who grew up with the originals rating this over a 5 or a 6? Now I understand why religions don't die, new cults appear and wars happen. Some points of view are just irreconcilable.
I wanted to give this 3 stars, but I had to give it a 1 because the rating was so unfair.
I grew up watching the original series and thought Episode 3 was a great movie. As with all of the movies, the acting isn't the greatest, but you guys act like Episode 3 is as bad as Episode 1 lol. I think it's also as enjoyable as Episode 6. I think that die hard fans are so attached to the original trilogy that anything else can't measure.
share"I think that die hard fans are so attached to the original trilogy that anything else can't measure."
Absolutely, which is why really no one should give a crap what "hard core" fans have to say. They want the exact same experience that the original gave them when they watched it as kids. They want the exact same feelings, the exact same experience. Unfortunately, that is never going to happen. No matter what Star Wars film is made, it will never have the same freshness, newness, and awe that the original had. Therefore, it will never measure up to the impossible expectations of the hard core crowd.
Anyway, this film has an average score of a 7.6 because it's actually a pretty decent film. I recently watched it a couple of days ago and the story was pretty good. It was tragic and heart wrenching to watch Anakin become corrupted and evil. The battle between Obi Wan and Anakin at the end of the film is pretty epic too.
Yeah, there's a lot of CGI. Yes, some of the acting is kind of flat. However, I don't think Star Wars is known for really great acting anyway.
Or we don't like bad movies
Why wouldn't we want that amazing feeling? I get the same feeling whenever I watch the Holy Trilogy. What I get from the prequels and farce awakens is a lot of bad feelings.
Why is it never going to happen? What basis of defeatist nonsense brought you to that conclusion? Why can't they make them as good? Empire was as good or better than New Hope. Jedi was less perfect than Empire but still amazing most of the time. So why can't filmmakers aim for that ideal?
It's a terrible movie. TERRIBLE. It's all stupid. You can like it but don't tell me it's good.
It's not that there is too much CGI, there is, but it's bad CGI. The acting in 4-6 is excellent beyond a couple of bad line reads in SW and Harrison mailing it in during Jedi.
Because people are becoming real unlike you fakers. BTW SW has bad lines and Jedi has terrible dialogue too. Stop giving the originals a free pass.
shareYou're one of those idiots that doesn't agree with the general consensus and believe your thoughts on what a movie should be rated is the right one. Then you go and rate it lower than you would otherwise. This is one of the reasons why film ratings on here are so unreliable.
Personally I enjoyed it. It has more flaws than I'd like but it is still an entertaining Star Wars movie and has some very good action sequences.
7.7 is too low.
Give to Causes For Free: http://theanimalrescuesite.com
Because its much better than The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones.
shareThat is one heck of a low bar there.
7.7 does seem high for a badly-plotted film with a couple okay action scenes.
That's because it isn't badly-plotted and its action scenes are awesome. You may think you have a case to claim otherwise, but you don't.
shareI think the plot sucks and the action scenes are boring and overproduced and I don't need any other case to claim otherwise.
share"I don't need any other case to claim otherwise". Well, you are entirely right about that. Film enjoyment is a very subjective thing and if you just didn't enjoy this movie, then that's entirely valid.
share"For" or "Against" sides with any film or any art can argue until they're blue in the face - and often raise some really nice points - but at the end of the day, you the viewer know what you like.
For my money, this is not a great film. I don't hate or think stupid anybody who disagrees, but I just can't see the value here.
I compliment you, sir, on your very mature response, by the by. Many people on these boards just level cannons and fire, so to speak.
because the first 2 were so awful.
shareWhy? Well its because your opinion is different to many others. I find these sorts of posts so amusing, when the "majority" obviously doesn't agree with your "minority" opinion, you think, it cant be me, it must be them? Clear evidence suggests the opinions of so many dont reflect yours...hence its got a 7.7. The next step your supposed to take in this sort of post is reject the IMDB scoring system...cue an argument about IMDB ratings...and the *beep* wheel starts spinning once again...*yawn*
shareBecause of the great acting, dialogue, and cartoons.
"From my point of view the Jedi are evil!!", "So love has blinded you??", "Not even the younglings survived"
Poetry in motion!
As opposed to the great dialogue in the OT?
"Only a master of evil, Darth", "these blast points, too accurate for Sandpeople. Only Imperial stormtroopers are so precise" (funny, considering that they can't shoot for sh**),
"From my point of view the Jedi are evil!!",
It's far too blunt and on the nose. Something we might expect an 8 year old to say.
shareWhy are people still complaining about the rating for this when it's been out over 10 years and isn't even taking up room on the Top 250?
Why aren't more people complaining why TFA has such a high rating? (not that I hated it or anything but it's nothing special and WAY overrated).
Oh, and ROTS should be rated higher.
