Did you really find this movie THAT shocking?

Considering how many critics and audiences have claimed in their negative reviews that it does rely on "shock value" too much? Or maybe not?

OK yes it did have cat killings, but other movies like "Cannibal Holocaust" (1980) had real animal killings and although staged but more disturbing scenes of violence against humans.

OK the movie does occasionally go to some extremes and has some disturbing images and scenes as well as mostly themes here and there. And its also a bit unsettling that you hear very little kids swear and deal in drugs as well as disturbing themes of child molesting and family (implied) murders and a few other bits here and there.

But was it really THAT disturbing and shocking to you as a film?

And did you also find the ways in which some groups of people were portrayed to be too stereotypical and offensive?

Even if it has merits. And some moments a bit too distasteful perhaps as well (such as the bath tub scene).

Cheers.

Not so much, I think back in '97 it was a little more shocking as people hadn't really seen that kind of thing before. Plus the cats looked very realistic.

It seemed like a realistic look into an impoverished US of A tornado-stricken lil town.

Bunny was a lucky f**ker kissin' the hot babes at the end, they had some nice bubbies as well!

4/10. A movie that doesn't age very well in terms of the artsy-fartsy vibe, but does give a good - assumingly realistic - glimpse of poverty-stricken children back in the late 90s.
