Difficult to score, you want it to be better than it is due to the first movie A good, fun, Cult-Classic Gore-Heavy Supernatural Comedy Horror Good start, dragged on through the middle, solid ending (Spoilers) Very charming movie Did anyone watch the Theatrical release first, and like the movie? What did you rate it? Can't believe I suffered through the entire movie. 0/10 for effort. Not as bad as people make it out to be Way better than the first! Would rate it higher but... This movie is definitely the pioneer of S&S movies. Having watched it for the first time today (15/01/25), it was pretty good, but not anything that blew me away. 6/10 from me! But I can see why people who either watched it when it first came out or, say, anytime before maybe 2000-2005 or so would rate it higher, definitely. Don't be honkin' your schrader! But in all seriousness, I did feel the same way, I actually thought the lighting, make-up etc. was really good in this movie. But not a whole lot else, sadly. Pinhead didn't do a terrible job, either. I know there are the Doug fans, and yes he was the best, but the other Pinheads weren't too bad I thought. I know what you mean. His acting was good but there was something missing - he did seem maybe a little bit 'going through the motions'. I think that was more due to a poor script, imo. Sometimes poor scripts can somewhat deflate performances, irrespective of the skill of said actor/actress. I recently watched this and wondered that as well, but you could also ask what happened to the girl in Revelations when she looked at the camera at the end - even though that was probably the poorest of all the movies (no pun intended, as it was obviously the lowest budget), I was intrigued to find out what would happen to her. I think this movie is marketed as more of a 'remake' or 'reboot' of sorts, so it's kind of starting the story from the beginning but heavily changing it. But yes it would be good if they made a direct sequel to Judgment, Revelations, any of the other ones with 'open' endings. This movie isn't too bad in terms of wokeness compared to a lot of other recent movies and TV shows. Gay people have been in movies for many years. Pinhead does actually look like a female (played by trans actress though, but you're not told that in the movie). Tbh there are way more obvious things they could have done to made it blatantly woke but they avoided it, so props to them for that. (7/10) Hellraiser (1987) (7/10) Hellraiser: Inferno (2000) (6/10) Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988) (6/10) Hellraiser III (1992) (6/10) Hellraiser: Hellseeker (2002) (5/10) Hellraiser: Bloodline (1996) (5/10) Hellraiser: Judgment (2018) (5/10) Hellraiser: Hellworld (2005) (5/10) Hellraiser: Deader (2005) (4/10) Hellraiser: Revelations (2011) I agree. I've watched all the previous movies so far and visited all the moviechat boards for each one and a lot of people say Revelations is the worst one thus far, to be honest it probably is the worst one from the Hellraiser movies so far, but it's actually not a bad movie overall. I had the impression people really just didn't like this as a movie, period, so I wasn't expecting much - but it wasn't that bad (especially considering the budget!), I rate it just slightly lower than Bloodline, Deader, and Hellworld at 4/10. I can see that, only problem is I've rated some REALLY bad movies 3/10, so in my personal ratings system, it would be harsh to rate it a 3/10 as, imo, it's not as bad. It's definitely not a 'good' movie, it's very, very average. Maybe a 5/10 would be more accurate. Yes interesting, I can see how people 10-15 years ago maybe went into some of the later Hellraiser movies thinking they'd be similar to the first two or three movies and then be disappointed so not really score the film based on its own merit rather than it being closely linked to the first three movies. Because I've been warned the latter movies aren't very similar, I'm able to enjoy them for what they are. I gave this one a 5/10, but I can see why fans previously may have given it a lower score due to disappointment. When disconnecting Hellraiser from the movie, though, it's not too bad, similar to Deader, Hellseeker, etc. Covenant View all replies >
