well this film is by the same people who brought us The Professional. clearly the director likes the "tough older guy" and the "child" or "woman with the mind of a child" dynamic for his films..

^ and if you look at Director Luc Besson's page you will see in the trivia section the controversy of him dating a 15 year old when he was in his mid 30s... Which is a little too much (personally)

The 15 year old he was dating was the French actress that played the Diva Plavalaguna, Maiwenn Le Besco (not the voice). She had a son by him at sixteen. They were still together when the 5th Element was filmed. He left her for Milla Jovovich after they wrapped the movie. I love this movie, but still- Yikes!

Well that's just fVcked up! I just read about how he left his long-time girlfriend for Milla during the filming of this and thought it was so trashy, to learn how young that other girlfriend was, makes it just disgusting.

Seriously in Hollyweird, this is the rule and not the exception.

It's much easier to identify the movies where the male romantic lead was 10+ years older than the female lead, than otherwise...and many times much more than 10 years and closer to 20. A few examples that just pop into my head:

Pretty Woman
Richard Gere: 41
Julia Roberts: 23

Sabrina (1954)
Humphrey Bogart: 54
Audrey Hepburn: 25

Harrison Ford: 53
Julia Ormond: 30

And this doesn't bother the women who want to bang 41 year old Richard Gere or the men who want to bang 23 year old Julia Roberts.

A bit different finding someone physically attractive and having a serious relationship with them, though.

Dating a 15 year old is just pathological, though

It plays into men's fantasies but if the woman is much older especially in real life people are not so accepting-there's a double standard,which is too bad.

^^^ This. If the genders were reversed this thread would've been scathingly critical towards the older woman. But since the male is older, love is just a number apparently.

That's not creepy at all. She is 5000 plus 50000 plus 5000 years old...not sure exactly how many but a lot. So technically SHE is WAY older than he is and your don't think that's creepy. What gives. No racism, agism, or any ism please. Let's just all get along. By the way he is WAY too hot in this show and she is well PERFECT. I have seen this movie at LEAST 100 times and love it every single time. Gary Oldman is excellently cast along with Bruce Willis' mother.
