Poe deserved to be convicted

He didn't deserve to got to prison, but he deserved to be convicted. The men were meters away from him and weren't threatening violence or walking towards him, so he wasn't in any danger at that time. He could've easily got in his car and drove off, which he was already about to do. But instead he decided to go fight them. He had no reason to fight them other than to look tough. He made a stupid decision and it had disastrous consequences. Anything can happen in a fight. If you're stupid enough to start one, you're to blame for what happens at the end.

As the Judge explained, he was a trained weapon of war and therefore above being judged by the usual standards. He could have either evaded the fight altogether or, in chosing to engage, he should easily have been able to take out a few drunks without resorting to lethal force.

I wouldn't say he started the fight, but he sure as hell finished it. I don't think the point was for us to think he shouldn't have gone to jail, just to sympathize with why and how he got there.

reply

Baloney! The man attacked Poe with a knife. Poe had every right to use lethal force.
