Why doesn't this play on Disney anymore??

I used to love this movie, and now remembering, there were so many other "non-Disney Channel" movies that used to play on television. Does anybody remember any of the other movies that used to play on Disney Channel in the 90s?

reply

Motocrossed! That was my favorite one.

reply

They should air it again!

smoke two joints in the morning, smoke two joints at night

reply

I don't get it either. I mean they do air some of the old movies every now and then but I never see them airing this one.

Eva *hearts* James Marsden!

They played Johnny Tsunami over the summer... I guess that's as far back as they can go.

reply

Don't Look Under the Bed was probably my favorite!! A) I thought it was really inventive, and B) They played Earth, Wind, and Fire during the credits. What was not to love?!?!

Angels in the Outfield is a Disney movie as well and so is My Date with the President's daughter. They didn't premiere on Disney channel but Disney made them. The 1995 Freaky Friday was the best one IMO!

Yep you pretty much covered them all! I LOVED A Kid in King Arthur's court and wasn't there a sequel to it involving the same boy and him rubbing Aladdin's magic lamp? And also here's a question, does anyone remember this one movie that used to be shown quite a lot on Disney it was about these kids that re-enacted King Arthur's court, and the main boy had the sword Excalibur(sp?) but then it was taken away from him..anyone remember the name of it? Thanks in advance!

its because disney has a giant stick up their butt!!!

all the movies now are so ridiculously dumb, i miss all the old movies, like wish upon a star and teen witch.

"Glen Coco? FOUR for you, Glen Coco! You go, Glen Coco!"-Damien, "Mean Girls"

reply

here's one you forget that they always played right around Halloween

Teen Witch.

I used to love that ovie, and watched for it religiously. That along with Labrynth. I miss the old things, now they have the HSM and Cheetah girls, and not that I mind them but it's blah to me, my son loves HSM to pieces, but to me it doesn't have the same flare as the old stuff.

reply

haha, i JUST bought Teen Witch about a week ago, for $2.00. I couldn't resist, because they are never going to play it on TV again, I love that movie.

As for Wish Upon A Star, if you're old enough, then you will remember that when they first showed the movie[and subsequent times after for some time], they had that table dancing scene in the cafeteria with that skanky little black outfit the younger sister was wearing; after a little while Disney cut that scene out of the showings, and then they just stopped playing it all together.
They don't show the movies anymore that were really even remotely realistic about high school life. It's all squeaky-clean versions of it, which i HATE.
And i don't think i've seen a non-disney show/movie on the disney channel for years, although I pretty much stopped watching altogether some time ago.
It's just annoying.

Remember when they used to play Smart Guy? I absolutely loved that show, i'm so glad that another network has finally started playing it again[BET]. And Sister, Sister? FLASH FORWARD!? God, i loved that show.
My dad told me the other day that he read an article that was about how the new owners and executives at Disney have been saying a lot of negative things about the old Disney channel shows, movies, and Walt Disney himself. who are they to talk? Disney has turned into a teeny-bopper freakshow, it was wayyy better before.

Your list is so great, it brings back so many memories. I'm gonna cry. I check the guide every so often and Disney never plays these movies anymore. Oh and genius was a DCOM but it didn't seem like it. Emmy Rossum was in it.

Wow, that list brought back so many memories...
A few more to add to the list would be:

RocketMan = Harland Williams and the monkey go to Mars, and he has to kill months of time because the monkey stole his spot in the sleep chamber lol

The Witches= the English boy turns into a mouse because of the witches convention at a hotel. Anjelica Huston was the star

The Worst Witch= Its at some boarding school for witches and Tim Curry is the grand wizard...I remember it was kind of weird but still pretty awesome

But Wish Upon A Star was always one of my favorite movies that came on Disney Channel

I forgot another classic movie that Disney used to show before it turned totally lame: Trading Mom= the kids go to the mommy market and get 3 tokens to get another mom, and their mom is Sissy Spacek

reply

Trading Mom! I loved that movie.. it really made me appreciate my mom more..

I agree 100% I was thinking that same thing.

that's my favorite one too!!!!!!! I miss the old disney! oh and I loved Bug juice! the original ones...

reply

Yeah, I don't know exactly why, but I think it's because it's not as "appropriate for kids"? I just remember they had like hot tubbing and hickeys, perhaps getting a little too raunchy for Hannah Montana lovers? Perhaps.

I miss Model Behavior with JT!

reply

I'm not exactly sure why disney doesn't play it anymore. I guess maybe because it's outdated. But another non disney one on at the time was model behavior! And I've seen that one on ABC family quite a bit the last couple years. Those were my 2 favorite cause when I was younger, they were just cooler and not as cheesy. But yeah like Teen With, Escape to Witch Mountain, Hocus Pocus, Halloween town (which might have been a disney channel movie, I can't quite remember!), the original parent traps, The Brave Little Toaster, A Goofy Movie, Susie Q.

And they still play a good amount of the older disney channel movies. There's so many that there's still a big demand for, in my opinion. Luck of the Irish (which I finally saw again recently! So good!), Smart house (which they still play), Motocrossed (one of my favorites, they really need to bring that back!), Brink!, Zenon. That's all I can think of at this point. I can remember more, but those were the ones that really stood out for me!

reply

i think they should make a Disney Channel Classic channel. Putting on all the movies from back in the day. I miss Susie Q. I loved that movie I use to think that the lead actor in the movie was really cute!
edit: the lead actor wasn't really cute!

reply

LOL me too! i still love all the old Disney movies, I actually found a few OLD tapes where i recorded them way back when and converted it to DVD for my sister's kids and decided to put some clips (by which i mean all of Suzie Q and Wish Upon A Star) and they got removed from YouTube!!! GRRRR i wish Disney would play all these old moveis again but they never will cos now they're all High School Musical and BS like that.

HEY DISNEY! ALL YOUR NEW MOVIES SUCK BUTT!!!!!!

I remember Family (I'm Canadian) playing Hocus Pocus and Drop Dead Fred once.

reply

oh man i used to love susie q. that was so romantic, we used to watch it in hotel rooms on vacation (i was a little girl, about 8 when i first saw it) it is still one of my favorite girlhood movies, and i wish they would play it more though it might not have the same appeal :(

you live, you learn, you crash, you burn

reply

I have Wish Upon A Star on DVD. I think everyone should buy it. I've had it for almost 2 years and it's 1 of my favorite movies ever and 1 of the best DVD's I own!

RIP River Phoenix. Chris Marquette & Jared Leto r my fav actors & the hottest guys ever!

I worship the goddesses Elisha Cuthbert, Brandi Ryan, Amber Tamblyn, and Ryan Starr!!!

reply

They JUST played it on disney!

Oh, I remember Susie Q. That was one of my favorites :3
Also, P.U.N.K.S

Wish Upon A Star was really good. I think they don't play it anymore because of the 'virgin' scene, hickeys, and probably because of the halloween costume.

Is it just me, or is Disney getting more .. idk what the word is, but really clean. Even more so today than they were in the past.
Which is expecially weird when you think about how more acceptable that stuff is on TV these days.
