There's a remake on the way and according to IMDb there's only three years to go!!!
With that in mind, everybody needs to get in here quick and start throwing some casting suggestions around before this thing is cast, wrapped, and underperforms before any of us even have the chance to argue over why Ron Perlman would obviously have been a much better choice than whoever they get to play him.
Relese dates/years on imdb mean nothing, especially for a movie so early in production as this. Thye don't have a director or anything, everything can fall apart at any time.
If the movie ends up being made, which is still a big IF, they need someone like Hugo Weaving for Dredd, not Perlman.
Weaving, really? Can't imagine his smarmy, charmer voice being a good fit for Dredd. I guess he gives good frowny-faces, but otherwise I don't see why they need him and not Perlman.
Good points, well made, but when you say 'it's hard to know if the average movie goer would want to watch a film about a fascist cop of the future' I'm afraid I have but one word in reply: RoboCop.
Personally I see the reduced budget as a positive. I mean, the last thing anyone really wants is 'Dredd 2'. We want Judge Dredd: Good Movie and I think we're more likely to see that if there's less pressure on the film to be an instant mega-blockbuster smash hit.
Bring on the lower budget, I say. It didn't do Serenity any harm... not that it helped it, either, but still.
While a huge budget Dredd movie would be awesome, I actually hope they'll keep the budget more modest, as that would allow a more adulted movie as opposed to PG13 fare.
I for one can live with a less epic Mega City 1 if that means a more mature and overall better movie.
But before that even is elevated to a concern, I hope the movie gets off ground period. From what I can tell, things are awfully quiet.
It depends on which artist draws him but seeing as Jackie Earle Haley seems to be cornering the faceless character market he has a gnarled look which matches some depictions.
Then I take it you are planetoid on the 2000AD forums I sometimes lurk?
Fox is an inspired choice which I most certainly could live with should it come to pass, but I'm sorry to say that don't really see it or hear it. His features are a tad soft and his voice not quote stern or menacing enough. Hugo Weaving remains top on my wishlist...for now.
It is perfectly possible that he can pull of menace and authority if given a role that requires it, but I haven't seen that yet. I know he can pull off self pity and being a wuss, and very well at that, which might be why I'm not giving him my approval right of the bat.
But keep your suggestion vids coming, I'd love to see more of them! Might have to sign up on YT and make a few myself...
Given his track record (LOTR, Matrix, Transformers, V for Vendetta) he think he could do a movie like Judge Dredd if it has the right script.
I sure hope so, in addition mine and many other, he is also JD prinicpal writer John Wagner's preferred choice for the role.
Such a script I think would require an adapation of the Democracy storyline, featuring Dredd's gradual awakeing to what the system he upholds actually represents. In the hands of the right writer and director, such a movie could not only be a great Judge Dredd movie, but a GREAT sci-fi movie period, something which should peaque his interest as an actor.
If the people making the movie have sense enough to do that story is of course another matter entirely...
lol, the way things are going, it'll probably be like, Sam Worthington, he's got a ton of movies coming up.
However, my preferred choice for Dredd would probably have to be Liam Neeson. He's older, so he'd be able to sell the whole "experienced Judge" thing, and he's perfectly authoritative and can definitely be menacing ("I told you I would find you). WQeaving would be a great choice I suppose, but I'm all for Liam Neeson.

There are three kinds of people in this world. The living. The dead. And The Living Dead
Vinnie Jones Ray Stevenson Vin Deisel Clive Owen Ron Pearlman Aaron Eckhart Mickey Rourke Kurt Russell hugo Weaving Mel Gibson Dwayne Johnson Josh Brolin Richard Burgi Roland Kickinger Michael O'hearn Clark Bartram Owain Yeoman Ben Stiller Keanu Reeves Jean Claude Van Damme
Robert Downey Jr, I know this will be an unpopular choice with you guys, but he could also deliver comedy to the role, like I believe the first one had.
Full agreement. Statham has the Dredd growl, a passable jawline, and the legit physicality to pull off the role. Really hope they nail it with the new Dredd flick or I'm gonna be drokking pissed! ^.^
Robert Downey Jr is probably one of the only actors which could out do the GODLY Stallone Dredd. Anyone else is not THE LAW since Stallone is THE LAW!!!!
i can rack off a crap load of actors who could pull off the part depending "which way" you'd wanna go...
Dolph Lundgren Vin Diesel Arnold Schwarznager (who was originally considered for the part over stallone) Bruce Willis Mel Gibson Thomas Jane (Frank Castle from The Punisher) Ray Stevenson (Frank Castle from Punisher:War Zone)
Judge Dredd doesn't HAVE to be bulked up like the Incredible Hulk. He just has to be in good physical shape and any of these actors i listed can pull that off
I would argue with Leonidas, because for most of the film it appeared that he was asking for man-love with the rest of the cast in that homo-erotic farce. But whatever floats your boat, Mr 13.
Milo Venitmiglia mate! He's the one. He was awesome as Rocky's Son. Got superhero credentials in Heroes, and they should definitely do a 'Phantom'ish story line where Stallone hands over the reigns to Milo. Still love the orignial though. I AM THE LAW! Awesome. ;-)
A complete unknown actor should be cast or a known actor willing to spend the entire film with only his jaw showing, i love dredd and yeah i like the orignal film (look its a funny film, the way i see it the old judge dredd and this new dredd film will hopefully be compared to the old batman tv show and the new batman films). The only other thing i want the film to do is not have the dark judges or chief judge cal as the main villains sure set up cal for a villain for the sequal, they need to start off with something audiences unfamiliar with dredd can grasp and get into before moving onto the amazing storylines dredd fans want to see on the big screen. Cause i dont want to see one dredd film i want a franchise and then hopefully 2000ad characters will have more of a chance of making it to the big screen i mean come on who doesnt want to see a strontium dog film (yeah i kinda want to see johnny alpha and wulf on the big screen more than dredd)
