The real Best Picture, 1994

Quiz Show is so much better than the other films that were nomintated (and yes, I have seen all of them). The slick directing, the vivid screenplay, the stylish cinematography, the great performances, everything in this movie was an example of film making of the highest quality. It deserved everything it was nominated for, and should've been nominated for (and won) other categories.

Look, I have been reading some of the responses and I didn't see too many picking the movie that actually won best picture of 1994. That's crazy. Forrest Gump was the best movie of 1994. I thought it back then and I think it now. It was wonderful acting all around, good script and, good direction by Zemeckis. You're all idiots(just kidding, but not about Forrest Gump).

I've seen Pulp Fiction, the Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, and Quiz Show. They were all fantastic movies, but I think Pulp Fiction should have probably won: the characters were believeable, the script was excellent, the story was good, but most of all, it is a movie that requires some thinking and in-depth analysis. Everytime I watch Pulp Fiction I notice something new about the film.
That being said, Quiz Show was a great film that was much better than some other movies that have won the Oscar (Titanic immediately jumps to mind). I have a lot of respect for Robert Redford and I think John Turturro is an extremely underrated actor.

I've seen all five of the 1994 Best Pictures and here's my view, in order of diminishing quality:

1. Pulp Fiction
2. Shawshank Redemption
3. Quiz Show
4. Forrest Gump
5. 4 Weddings and a Funeral

You're right... Quiz Show was great and is still somehow underrated. Pulp Fiction should have won but maybe the most overrated movie won in Forest Gump. What a piece of crap, sentimental suck fest. Of course it's not the biggest travesty when it comes to the Oscars. Titanic won over L.A. Confidential??? Boogie Nights wasn't even nominated and Crash won over A History of Violence(not even nominated). Also Walk the Line was better than Ray and didn't get nominated either. I thought Quiz Show was nominated but the Oscars are a huge joke. I mean actors like George Clooney, Halle Barry, Julia Roberts win while people like Christian Bale don't even get nominated. It's more of a popularity contest.

1. Pulp Fiction
2. Forrest Gump
3. The Shawshank Redemption
4. Quiz Show

4 Weddings and a Funeral wasn't that good.

On IMDb, trolls cannot understand these two words, OPINION and LEAVE.

You know, it's incredibly tough to say which of these nominees "should have" won the Oscar -- an award, by the way, that is as subjective as its honorees.

But I'm a bit surprised by the hate for "Forrest Gump" showing up here in no small amount. The movie is perhaps one of the best examples of popular film making: it sucks you in and takes you on one hell of a ride. Try to think back to the first time you saw it (hopefully) in the theater. It was one of the few times I've left a theater not realizing that more than two hours had passed.

Anyway, it may or may not have been Oscar worthy, but I'm willing to bet that Forrest Gump outlives the other four.

I've been around for some time, and like to think I have a decent taste for movies. '94 was a damned good year for film. But I am apparently the only one here who thinks that Tom Hanks and Forrest Gump each deserved their Oscars. I've seen each of these top rated movies of 1994 maybe ten or twelve times (with the exception of Four Weddings, which I've seen once), and I just can't get past the thought that Forrest Gump is just the best damn movie ever made. Everything about it just seemed so flawless. I don't know what went right with Zemeckis and Eric Roth and Alan Silvestri and the whole lot of them, but it turned out perfectly.

I'm also a huge fan of Tarantino, and think Pulp Fiction rightly won the (more artsy-based) Palm D'or while the great American film Gump won the Academy Award. Fiction also got the trophy for screenwriting, as it should have. So everything's in its right place.
