Such a haunting movie

The story itself is great and very effective. One of the best comic based movies there is, IMO. And even after nearly 30 years, it's pretty timeless aside from some dated looking CGI in a couple of scenes.

I've always wondered if it would have been as haunting had Brandon not died? I still think it would have been a very highly regarded movie that people would still talk about. The aura of his actual death somewhat mirroring his character's death definitely give it a much heavier feel that sticks with you.

It's one of my favorite movies of all time. The "Can't Rain All the Time" starting as the end credits roll really does weigh on you and stick with you. Not to mention the "For Brandon and Eliza." It's a shame Brandon was taken so soon. He would have had a big career and a lot of very big roles.

The real life story certainly has made this film's profile a lot larger. I think it's certainly more tragic and macabre for that real-life parallel. Lines like, "Nothing is trivial," would have been profound and excellent without Lee's death. With the death, we watch him mourn his in-film life while we contemplate what might have been.

Heck, if Lee had survived, more people might know about it because he might still be kicking butt in the movies. He might have been Neo in The Matrix. He might have played Iron Fist or another hero of the MCU. I'd bet money that he'd have found his way into at least one Quentin Tarantino picture. Of course, if they made a couple sequels to The Crow, we also might think of this film as a series of bad movies and forget the first one is good (a lot of people do this with Rocky and Rambo, in my opinion).

But at the end of it, this is just a great movie, and I think it would be haunting, bittersweet, and perfect whether or not the production itself became tragic.

It’s just an overall great movie - the cinematography, the dialogue, the plot, the acting. Brandon Lee was the star, but one underrated actor is the detective (who also played Ltd Fancy in NYPD Blue)

reply

You mean, Ernie Hudson (AKA Winston Zeddemore in Ghostbusters). Ltd Fancy in NYPD Blue was portrayed by James McDaniel.

Damn! You’re right . They’re different actors. I thought they were the same dude (no racist, but some of these black guys can look so identical)
