I just came to this IMDB page for Free Willy today for the first time, and saw that it's voting/rating/stars thing was only like, 5.7.

Why do people hate this movie so much? I really don't see why anyone could have a problem with it. It is just a family movie that is meant to be sweet. So what's the big idea? Why would anyone criticize it so much?

In my opinion, it is one of the best family movies out there. It teaches a good lesson that many children do not learn from the movies that come out these days. When I have kids, they will be sure to see Free Willy.

I just expected people to have the same respect for this movie as I do. But 5.7? I just don't get it...I really don't...it really makes me sad.

Although I do think Free Willy is at least an OK kids movie, it's kinda pointless to watch. Why, do you ask? Because the main plot point and climax is given away in the title of the movie. Hell, the first trailer for the movie showed the ending. This movie is the best example of a dumbed down kids movie. Just rewatched it and I really don't get the low rating. It holds up nicely after all these years.
